MeTa post: London meetup, Saturday 26th July?
Erk. I'd better get into the back garden and finish that TARDIS.

MeTa post: jason's_planet will be in London. Let's meet up!
I just read essexjan's link - a Eurovision meetup would be all manner of untold ossumness.

Actually, last year's (100% awesome) Eurovision thread ended with a 'everybody must meet up and have a Eurovision party' exhortation.

Not sure about my freeness yet, I will keep staring at my diary until something does or doesn't appear.

Not sure it serves fruit beer, though, unless it's a lager top.

Well, one of the comments on BITE mentions that it's quiet on Saturday because few people yet know it's actually open then...

Er. Except it's on Friday.

?

I obviously haven't had enough tea today.

Going to have to skip this. Sorry everyone, I've just got too much W. S. on at the moment. Rising Sun sounds great though. Next time for sure.

Yay Toronto -- I have sidebarred these shenanigans.

I can't quite remember what time the last GO for Clarkson leaves but don't feel restricted to around Union station on my account... can I leave it to somebody else to suggest a venue?

A lift back to Mississauga would be super and also duper, though -- thanks. Let's see what transpires.

I will try and save some cake, or at least some centrepiece ideas or boutonnieres.

Good idea -- I think that's supposed to be a nice place.

A minor observation.

I think I speak fairly clearly. I have an accent, but that's not as if nobody's heard somebody from England before. So why do service personnel find me so hard to understand?

In the cinema today, I order water from the kid behind the counter and get given tea. At Tim Horton's I ask for two maple swirls and get given three. And at Swiss Chalet -- I went to the loo after my meal, came out and couldn't find my table. I found the... [more]

Well I'm going to try and avoid talking to the bartenders on Friday. Instead of beer they'll probably think I asked for a toad, or a small Persian rug, or Neptune's 2nd moon or something.

Hey all - this is randomination's girlfriend . . . anyone know what his plans for coming home were? Just wondering 'cause he's about an hour and a half late and I can't get a hold of him or find him . . . Not too sure about an englishman wandering the streets in this cold!

Morning. I made it home. Unfortunately the all-night streetcar down Spadina runs all night but only stops at Adelaide, so I ran, weaving through club queues and skidding over icy pavements all the way from Adelaide/Spadina. I think at one point I vaulted a six-foot snowbank. At Queen I dived into the underground passageways thinking they would get me down the block faster. That was a mistake. I lost all sense of direction and had to be escorted back up the stairs, gibbering, by the security... [more]

I'm slightly concerned by the reports that it's a rather busy bar? Crowded venues make for terrible meetups.

Might be ok on a Thursday... Shall I go in tomorrow and reserve a table just in case, though?
posted to MetaTalk by randomination at 11:21 AM on December 2, 2007
Right, I booked us in at 6.30pm for the non-Christmas menu. I asked for room for around 10 people but the last time I booked a table there I was hilariously inaccurate with the numbers and they didn't seem to mind.

There was an identical booking for 6.30pm for the same date, nobody else booked, did they?

Am going about 10 minutes early, see if I can bagsy the table by the door.

Agreed with dash. And we need to have a curry. It must be done.

YES. Might I suggest Masala Zone? There's a branch in Soho with nice big tables. Or somebody may have their own favourite curry place I know nothing about...

MZ only does bookings for 12+ people I see,but I'm pretty sure we can manage that kind of turnout.

Meet first in pub would probably be a good idea. Loads of good ones round there; I'll leave that for somebody else to suggest, though.

Hey Mathowie, something just occurred to me. Are you considering reporting from London for the podcast?

I'm gonna be in London from Oct 1-6th. If there's a meetup that week, I'll be there.

Hah, then this Sep 20 meetup is going to almost certainly turn into a 'plotting what to do with mathowie in London' meetup.

I've already got the gallon of chicken jalfrezi on order, now I have to source a suitable hosepipe.

I've got a driving lesson that exact same moment. My apologies will have to attend instead.

This looks great, but I'm going to be in Oxford for a Peruvian-Jewish ceilidh.

Randomination, love the idea of a Peruvian-Jewish ceillidh, please take photos!

Addendum: It's a Peruvian-Jewish ceilidh in a field in Oxfordshire.

I'll try and take photos but I'm not sure my camera will work underwater.

Have a good time, you guys.

MeTa post: London Meets
I live near Richmond, so I'd definitely be up for that.
posted to MetaTalk by randomination at 9:37 AM on June 16, 2007
Richmond's not so bad, although it could be a bit of an arse for some people to get to particularly if the District line disappears up its own chuff.

May I suggest the Dove, in Hammersmith? It's on the river, and all, and has Europe's smallest bar. Nearest tube is Hammersmith / Ravenscourt Park.

The afternoon might be quite nice.
posted to MetaTalk by randomination at 10:44 AM on June 16, 2007
They do food.

If you're really hungry, you can go across the river and hunt swans at the Barnes Wetland Centre.

Just out of interest, is anybody interested in the mass Bookcrossing on the South Bank on that afternoon? It starts at noon and is free. (This is an explanation.)

I'll be going if anybody else is. We can then grab lunch, mooch around and then amble down to Hammersmith.
posted to MetaTalk by randomination at 9:06 AM on June 24, 2007
Waterloo railway station, under the clock on the concourse? That's a fairly easily locatable spot, five minutes' from the South Bank, and a famous London meeting place.

I do need to be there for the start of the event, though...
posted to MetaTalk by randomination at 12:15 PM on June 26, 2007
Eeek! Sparx -- the clock is INSIDE the station... not outside.

I might need to arrive at 11.30 and head down at 11.45.
posted to MetaTalk by randomination at 4:06 PM on June 26, 2007
I'm going to be under the clock at Waterloo from about 11.15 onwards. It'll be busy, but you will be able to see and identify me because I will be holding a shiny gold balloon.

This is what the clock looks like.

I will leave at 11.45, but I will take a few spare gold balloons if anybody else wants to hang back and pick up any latecomers.

There's some fun stuff going on on the South Bank that afternoon (ballroom dancing,... [more]
