MeFi Follow-Up: Joe Horn is Cleared of All Charges
In an alternate reality, Joe Horn is 11 years old. Back in 2006, he was paralyzed from the waist down by a freak accident while volunteering at the local animal shelter. The group of puppies he was with carried him to a hospital, where J.P. Patches visited every day while he recovered. Two years later, recently-legalized stem cell research has discovered a new treatment that restored sensation and control to little Joe's legs. After six months of intensive rehabilitation and physical therapy, a... [more]

Backstabbing is not conducive to intellectual discourse
I'm going to explain this so that everyone can just get along: Whenever you hear someone use some variant of the phrase "The Fed is printing too much money!", you can just skip over their entire comment. Don't bother reading it; you will only come out the other side that much dumber. People who actually know their shit will explain things in terms of credit expansion or monetary policy or any other terms that don't involve... [more]

Can we just globally search+replace "chatfilter" with "You didn't frame this correctly" and then link to a How-To for what the right way to frame your chatfilter question is?

Trolley, that was the point. Chatfilter is implicitly OK when it's surrounded by enough fluff and there's no documentation for people to find out which pieces of fluff you need to let your question stand.

Sure, women are shorter than men on average. But a lot of women are tall! And many are also taller than specific other men. My insight is piercing.
This is the basis of all bad discussion.

AskMe hell
This question isn't nearly as bad as any number of novella-length "What do I do with my relationship?" questions. The guy wants some ideas on what to do with his life. I can't actually think of a more important question. What exactly is your problem here?

These threads are only doomed because people choose to shit in them without any fear of recourse. Prefpara had a good answer, Burhanistan had a good answer, Cranberry had a good answer, there were some other decent answers in there as well.

stavros - Leave the Grocery Shopping to the Women
Decided to go grocery shopping after my wife saw some minute maid juice boxes in a circular on special at target stores .. She did a search for printable coupons online ,and to my surprise she found some minute maid coupons for target stores . She printed ten coupons and got ten boxes of minute maid practically free ... (lol) . Why can't us men think of these things ?... [more]

Or you could just not say anything.
The OP tried to avoid this by saying "I won't try to couch my concerns in anything but incredibly selfish terms", is dealing with a loss of sex interest in his now-hostile spouse, and is probably on track for a divorce. Either way, he's in a rough spot and admits that he's not trying to sugar-coat his own perspective. If that isn't the right time to call someone a douchebag, what is?
P.S. RussHy, you're a douchebag

The community consensus is that if your spouse starts to resemble Jabba the Hutt, you are obligated to somehow be sexually attracted to Jabba the Hutt.
I suspect the ensuing community consensus that is about to be hurtled at you will be that if you really, really loved Jabba, you'd muster the strength to change your sexual desire. This is the same process that Ted Haggard is trying, but with less JesusTM

Real adults don't need a button on a webpage to stop them from doing whatever harm it is they're bringing on themselves. If you don't want to post to MetaFilter anymore, there's a button-free way of doing it.

Fair enough; if you're such a tool you can't get off the internet, change your password to a fine GUID like {9ECE42E2-91A1-47C9-B9A8-04D1BB455BAA}. I will even provide you new GUIDs free of charge. Drop me MeFiMail with your current password and I'll change it for you.
Real question, though: Why does the user info page even indicate that the account is disabled?

I just chipped in. My understanding was we had a matching favorite program where a fellow volunteer would match my favoriting. Who's matching mine?

Dear MetaFilter: My collicky newborn weighs 450 pounds, but the airline says children under 18 months can share a seat with their parent, so I guess I'll just get one ticket. The question is: where can I change his diaper? Obviously the restroom is out (we won't both fit), so the lap of the person next to me is acceptable, right?

Anonymous wanted to know if there was a way to get paternity results before a child was born. The answer is yes. Are people afraid that someone would hear about a medical procedure, not take the effort to even google it for a few minutes, then go to the doctor to request one, and have the doctor not inform them of the risks before doing the procedure?

Seems to be a much more detailed response than the "just don't" a lot of people are casting it as.
It's longer than "Don't do it", but doesn't actually say anything more. Don't confuse verbosity with clarity. "I don't do it because it's rude" doesn't help because the poster already knows it's rude, which is why they're asking the fucking question in the first place. It's a non-answer and if it didn't... I also think that people (not only men) who say that they only have eyes for their S.O. are ridiculous because they are suppressing a natural human trait, and denying the fact that that trait exists
That is emphatically not the assertion you made. Having eyes for someone is not the same as cheating with them.
