MacBook Battery Problems

Two, almost certainly related problems: My MacBook has taken to turning itself off while still showing as having a high battery charge. It has turned itself off while showing it at 36 minutes of battery time left. coconutBattery says that my current battery capacity is only at 54% of the original. Anything I can or should do about this?

Advice about applying to graduate school while abroad

I'm looking for information for applying to grad school while abroad. (PhD programs in Political Science/International Relations). I graduated from college in spring 2006, and I'm planning on applying next year (Fall '09) to start in Fall 2010. I'm also considering going to Israel in July and staying for about 10 months, and I want to make sure this won't impact my grad school plans in any way.

Help me fix my Windows XP

I reinstalled Windows XP on a Dell machine running Ubuntu and it won't run above 640 by 480 resolution and 4 bits. It's an 80gb hard drive with 2gb of RAM, and there is nothing I can think of that would cripple the system like this. Any idea how to get the system running like it should be?

How many covenants are in the bible?

How many covenants are in the bible? My [more inside] list all the covenants with God in the Old and New Testaments, and am I understanding them correctly? If I'm missing any, can you briefly explain which ones I've left off the list and what the agreement is? Also, were any of these covenants I list below repeated somewhere else at a later time, with either the same or different people?

Specialized Phrases in General Usage

Is there a name for phrases (or sometimes words) that have lost their previous specific/narrow/jargon meanings and are now used generally in a wide variety of situations with little or no knowledge about their prior usage? Are there lists of them anywhere with the phrases and explanations?

Best Way to Organize/Display a List of Online Resources

Facebook Data Synergy into an Excel Sheet

Is it feasible and not a violation of the Facebook terms of service (and not exorbitantly expensive) to find a programs (or someone to write a program) that would go through a list of Facebook profiles and create an excel sheet with fields filled in with their info from the various fields in their profiles?

Two related questions: 1) Is there a ratio of...

Two related questions:
1) Is there a ratio of answers posted to questions asked on AskMeFi that makes one a good citizen? Does only asking questions and never offering answers make one selfish?
AND
2) If one's answer to a question has already been posted, should the same answer be posted again? Is reposting an answer a way to "vote" for that answer and show that multiple people think it's the best, or does a repeat answer that doesn't include any new information just get in the way of answers that have something new to them?

The Question Hit the Fan

Where did the phrase "the shit hit the fan" originate from? My googling has revealed one claim that it is from 1930's jazz lingo, although no explanantion is given as to what it meant at the time, and another site gives a story that describes the origin that doesn't seem believable. (the last paragraph here: http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=shit Does anyone know where the phrase came from? Thanks!
