Memorial fund?
This story is so strange. So was there a sex ring that her uncle ran, and was the rest of the family involved in covering it up? Or was it just the uncle? and why didn't anyone seem to care for the five years! that the other girl was having sex with the uncle? It's so odd and tragic.

We won't know until we know, you know. You should mentor this kid, start sending him Mefi Mails telling him not to go down that spamming road, that staying straight has its own rewards. You can be a savior, bunnytricks. Be that savior.

Oh! Too bad I missed it! I got the job at GW and start next week. Maybe, when the sun starts shining again and it warms up we can have another picnic at Lincoln Park.

Higher quality podcast recording options?
What, are we too good for telex now?
I actually own a working Telex machine, blue_beetle. It is one of the true wonders of the information age, were it not that the only other people who have a telex that I can find are working the concierge desk at the Kat'e Grand Hotel in Lesotho.

I want to experiment with a user-created podcast. We started the idea at the SF meet-up back in September, but we trusted the audio to the wrong person. So maybe we can do something again at the next SF meet-up (Dec 14). Coincidentally, Matt will be there. Does anyone want to submit topics of conversation? I'll volunteer as production manager and bring a digital recorder if we can agree on a format and a host. After that, maybe a group of us can meet over Skype and do it that way and record to... The higher quality ones seem to be the cases where it was planned ahead.
If it can be arranged, the guest will go to an NPR station near their location and do their side of the interview through a link from there. Network TV does this sometimes too. Phones don't enter into it.
Ah, OK, however, we are talking about a podcast that is just something a couple of people do. Not something they want to put... [more]

The dear green place anyone?
I might be in Aberdeen looking at a job soon. Probably around Christmas. That's a hike, but if we go somewhere with Grolsch, central heating, and a couch to crash on then I would give it some thought. I can bring some stuff from America, like peanut butter cups or CDs to allay the cost of this venture.

Loquacious: I love electronic music and am totally curious about art spaces. As long as, of course, the place is ventilated and has a bathroom. I'm all for it. Afters at Loquacious' on Dec 14?

SF meet-up
I know, I am still coughing. It was great to meet everyone. Adam from MonkeyFilter...I put your card out on my desk and my boss said "ooh, web person..." now I can't find the card. So, expect a phone call. Hydrobatide: Friday at Triple Rock? We'll discuss the smallest of sea birds. Courtney: hope your after was as enjoyable as your before. The_Bone: I honor your drive and hope you were not too wrecked for the drive back to LA. Quidnunc Kid: All to brief, really, we'll meet again and... [more]

I am currently in the process of re-tooling the radio show. It will still be about environmentalism. But also about much, much more.
Zipcar took $500 from me. I now take BART to work.
I actually had a conversation with Errol Morris' publicist. I was told that no, the outlook was not good on a journalist with no experience interning for two weeks. It was suggested that I look on Craigslist and get some experience as a PA.... [more]

SF meetup?
I would definitely be up for Triple Rock but anywhere is OK. I have been so insanely busy with work (God, the thought of what will go down on Monday kills me already) that it would be nice to have a moment to hang out with people who don't have any interest in what I am doing. Think about meeting at Picante in Berkeley, it's close to the Gilman Street exit from 880 and has good burritos and every flavor of Jarritos.

Okay, how about Beckett's in Berkeley, then? The food sucks and it's expensive considering the suckage, but it does have good whiskey.
On Tuesdays, Beckett's has a quiz night. If we could arrange a Tuesday night meet-up, then we could a rad MeFi team!

By publicizing a word for "email you want, but you don't want to read right now", he's culturally branding the term of copyright theft to mean otherwise?
Effectively, it doesn't matter what the word is or what it is applied to, or even if he just publicized it. I am referring in the thread to the reactionary forces that feed to a core audience for this behavior. Those who constantly need to reinforce the action by creating a buzz for why it... [more]
