I want to make my wife a mix - not on her iPod, not on CD, not even on tape, but a mix LP so those daggy eighties tracks are crackly and warm like my lurve. Is there a service that'll let me give them a bunch of tracks and then put them on to vinyl for me, or am I cluelessly underestimating how involved, expensive and illegal such a service is likely to be?

While I point accusingly at friends and relatives to find out who among them has stolen my copy of Michael Ruhlman's
Charcuterie, would some MeFite be kind enough to post the recipe for salmon cured with fennel and pernod? I can find a couple of people online who've adapted the recipe, but I need the original (and my book back!)

Are iPhones with the old (not 4.6) bootloader still on store shelves in the US? If so, is it possible to identify such phones from their packaging, for example, by examining a serial number? Hoping to ask my US-based folks to get me an iPhone or two, but keen for units that can be

If I use Handbrake for Mac to encode a DVD title to an AVI file with MPEG-4 video and MP3 audio, will it play in a standalone DivX player if I use the ffmpeg codec, or must I use the (much slower) XviD codec instead?

A friend is looking for a free (or really cheap) downloadable font to create a monogram for her wedding invitations consisting of the bride and groom's first initials and an ampersand (ie N&V). Any tips for a scripty, engrave-y, calligraphy-y, weddingy type font with lots of flourishes?
Is it a monogram if it's for two people? I have no idea.

My niece is trying to remember the rules of a card game that involves inflicting various acts of sadism on whoever ends up holding a black Jack. Said sadistic acts are determined by the suits of cards somewhere in play - for example, a Diamond results in a punch, a Club results in a pinch, and so on. The only other thing that she can remember is that one of the black Jacks is removed from the deck before play commences, leaving just one. Any ideas what the game is called, and how it's played?

As a naive Aussie, I've always assumed that there was a (emphasis on 'a') magical place called Disneyland somewhere in the US. Now I find there's something called "Disneyland", and something else called "Walt Disney World", and they both seem to have multiple subparks. What's the difference between the two? Which would my 10- and 12-year old nieces enjoy more? Generic Disney trip tips / pointers to a guide online welcome.

I am an atheist. My inevitable death and the deaths of those I love causes me occasional mental distress. I have no afterlife to look forward to, only oblivion.
