MeFi post: Sha-pow or something. Or, rather, lack thereof.
BATMAN & ROBIN WORST MOVIE EVER

Christ, talk about gratuitous grappling hook shots.

This post got me to watch some of the old Batman - The Animated Series episodes. There's an awesome show. Really cool art style, and some decent stories too.

MeFi post: Wow-e: Malthusian Fear Mongering Can Be Annoying
Can't wait to see Wall-E. And when I say wait, I mean wait three fucking weeks because that's how long it takes until it's out in the UK. Meanwhile, it's released in Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Panama, Israel, Belgium, Argentina and fucking Iceland, before it comes out over here. Not that I have anything against those countries, or think that the UK deserves it sooner than them, but what do they have to do to the film so they can show it here, ffs? Translate it? Add subtitles??... [more]

I'm happy Russia won, it netted me £12 in our Eurovision sweepstakes! I thought it had no chance based on the actual song but what do I know... our Euro party was just happy that Greece didn't win since she was blatantly miming.
My favourites were actually Bosnia&H (possibly the best overall), Finland (brilliant lyrics), and Latvia (can't go wrong with pirates).

MeFi post: Longer, Farther, Faster
So, forgive my lack of scientific knowledge, but what's the risk of him burning up, like other objects that come into our atmosphere. He's going 1000mph and then he hits the atmosphere? Is he just going to be a lump of coal the size of a chihuahua's head when he finally gets back down? Someone explain, please.

Other objects that hit the atmosphere and burn up (old satellites, meteorites, etc) are commonly going way, way faster than 1,000mph, and so... [more]

MeFi post: Flash Friday Fun: Pew pew space lasers! (Sort of.)
Build an ion cannon and a economic center at the start, keep upgrading them and add a second ion cannon; upgrade that too.

Huh, I was building a wall of cannons straight off, then spaced out bunkers below that and then eco centers, and eventually nuke silos and repair centers. Got me through Easy OK but died somewhere in Normal (3/4 way through maybe?). I should be upgrading more I guess.

I'm not really sure how the bunkers work - do they just protect un-built-on spaces or any spaces, whatever's there?

Okay, I'll bite... what does that have to do with anything? I get the Zero Wing reference, but why universal health care?

Beat the game (on any difficulty) and you will find out.

Man that "6 hours till..." totally fucked with my sense of time for a second there. I was like WHAT? IT'S SATURDAY? WHAT THE FU- oh wait.

Can't wait to watch it with Wogan commentating. He's what makes it all so great.

aargh! "Home"! I'd banished that episode from my mind. Weirdest, creepiest, grossest TV ever aired?

Home creeped me out big time, but the episodes that really freaked me out were the ones with evil/possessed/murderous little kids. I don't know why, but they scared me more than any mutant 100-year-old serial-killing human/tapeworm/alien hybrid vampire werewolf.

He also invented 3d noise-based texture mapping, a cornerstone of modern CG, for which he won an Oscar.

I mis-read that as "nose-based texture mapping" and was like "he won an Oscar for mapping noses??".

Zero Gravitas: Am I one of the three?

The ship name users are Zero Gravitas (GSV), ROU_Xenophobe (technically a dROU, or VFP), and myself (GSV). Other Banks-themed users are yourself (feersum endjinn), and Bora Horza Gobuchul (who is both a character and a Culture GSV named after said character). Might be others that I haven't spotted.

MeFi post: Top ten chemistry videos.
Rather, watching the video actually makes people dumber then when they started, because at the end of the video they say outright that Thermite wins out over LN2.

I wouldn't expect much from Braniac. This is the "science" show that fakes its experiments so they produce more exciting results.

MeFi post: The "Sex-Box" Race for President
Yeah, actually you can play as a female. And I'm pretty sure you can be gay (as male or female). Does that make it even worse?!?!?

I'm pretty sure that you can only "complete a romance subplot" (how's that for a euphemism) with either a human of the opposite sex, or an asari. The asari only have one gender but it's pseudo-female (they have boobs and look feminine). So I guess there's a same sex relationship in there if you play as a woman,... [more]

I think you have to be a Renegade (I played as a female Paragon first time, didn't bang her; played as a male Renegade second time and did).

Ah, apparently you just have to "express dissatisfaction with the offered reward". Which I guess is the Renegade route anyway.

MeFi post: This link is parked
re: the Smart car pic, I own a Smart so I know the dimensions pretty well and I think the perspective on that photo is a little tricky. I reckon there's a good 40-50cm between the Smart and the blue estate, and probably about that much on the other side too.

For the record, I rarely park sideways like this as I'm too wary of a truck or other wide vehicle clipping the front since it's sticking out too much. Plus I'm hardly ever that desperate for a space anyway.

MeFi post: The War Will Be Televised
When these soldiers are taking enemy fire and seeing RPG explosions a few feet away, why is there always a genius with them whose main thought seems to be, "Cool! I have to get this on film!" I figured that in the heat of battle, the tourist mentality of "I have to get this on film" would fall by the wayside. Apparently not.

I take it you think journalists who venture into war zones to film battles while dodging bullets are equally crazy?
