Ask post: Neck / spine cooler?
Anything like the top product here?
posted to Ask Metafilter by goshling at 3:17 AM on July 6, 2008
Oh sorry, that's not electric. Many people with Multiple Sclerosis would find that sort of product really beneficial, maybe try contacting the MS Society & asking if they are familiar with the product you're looking for?

Ask post: Why do flip flops go flip flop?
Do they go flip flop with an American accent, or Australian, or some other?

It's certainly not an Australian accent, for here they are known as thongs. And yes, we *are* all aware of what other nations call as thongs. We use that terminology also, interchangeably with "g-string".

Ask post: Controlling Birth Control: Can I?
As far as the IUD goes, it wouldnt let me control WHEN I got my period. Right? So it might actually make things worse.

YES.

I've had my Mirena for 4.5 years now, and I have a regular period every month which lasts for SEVEN days, but the flow is usually lighter than it was previously.
It irks me how readily some people recommend Depo, Mirena and Implanon for avoiding mensturation. Yes, some women do not bleed on... [more]

Ask post: Where's the pain coming from?
To me, being poked in the cervix is a sharp stabby pain, definitely not pleasant. I would guess the blood came from a tear caused by your husband abrading your tissue. You say you're using heaps of foreplay and lube, but perhaps your tissue is still a bit sensitive to all this new action it's getting.

We all come in various shapes and sizes, and some people fit together better than others. I've had partners where cervix bashing was quite frequent, and others where it... [more]

Ask post: Should I get upper dentures?
What reflected said: If you can save your teeth, do it. Dentures (I assume mean you are thinking of getting a FULL upper denture?) should be your absolute last resort. You should be able to get a partial denture just for the teeth you are missing already. Don't make any decisions in the short term until you have consulted at least one specialist and fully weighed all of your options.
Good luck!

Ask post: Quiz night games!
Knobs & Knockers

Everyone stands up, and puts their hands on their Knobs (um...holds their hands in front of their groin region) or their knockers (hold hands in front of chest).

MC tosses a coin, if heads, everyone with hands on knobs is out & has to sit down, if Tails, everyone with hands on knockers is out and has to sit down. After each toss, whoever is standing decides where to place their hands before the next toss. Continue until... [more]

Ask post: *yank!*
There is a knack to ripping the hair out. If done incorrectly, the follicle may become "distorted" and it won't grow straight, making it more likely to become ingrown. Maybe it's the angle you are holding the epilator, or just the epilator itself that is tweezing the hairs at a bad angle?

Ask post: Why do some people wear shoes indoors?
Another Australian here, of anglo descent.

We (my daughter & I) take our shoes off indoors at home, and generally expect guests to do the same. When visiting others, we follow their lead. As a child in the 70's the only people I remember who removed their shoes were those of Asian or Mediterranean European descent. I remember thinking what a good idea, as I much preferred being barefoot. People I know who have polished floorboards tend to prefer EVERYONE to remove... [more]

Here in inner south/east Melbourne, I've noticed several intersections that totally skip the walk phase if no one presses the button.

I love watching impatient people battering the crap out of the button as if hammering it repeatedly will get it to change faster. Never known it to make any difference at all.

I'm on a capped plan with a generous allowance, so sending the messages wouldn't cost me any more than I'm paying already, and I'm unaware of any company that charges for incoming SMS in Australia it wouldn't cost the clients anything.

I believe there are online services that will send the messages out on my behalf, but that would involve me paying them a fee for the service, and I'd have to enter in the data for them somehow, in which case I may as well just SMS the... [more]

What everyone above has said.

My daughter brought these little "pets" home several times over her early school years.

The itching is usually worse around the ears and the nape of the neck.

I've been in Hawaii for the last 3 weeks and have been treating myself to a daily cocktail. Mojito, Mai Tai & Margarita are my top three tipples - and not too girly. You should find many places do their own signature versions of the common cocktails. A few days ago, I had a cucumber mojito which was quite unusual and refreshing.

Personally thoigh, I would suggest you lean more towards standard mixed drinks, wines & beers.

Ask post: Do you cancel a massage if your back is zitty?
I have to agree with huxley - don't do any exfoliation if it's likely you'll aggravate the condition and possibly even leave scarring.

Acne is a local contraindication for massage due to the possibility of cross-infection, but that is highly unlikely unless the place you're going to is totally flouting hygiene practices.

You'll have to fill out an intake form - mention your acne on the form in the appropriate area on the form - if the form... [more]

I'm sorry - with all due respect and no ill feeling to the OP, can I just clarify something? I don't want to derail, but while we are on the subject, I thought it'd be nice to define some terminology.

Ask post: How to treat/prevent ingrown hairs
Exfoliate before and after. Use an exfoliating mitt daily.

This stuff is excellent, but you can just use plain old alcohol wipes, which is what the waxers in the day spa I worked at recommended. They would give a little bundle of single use alcohol wipes to all clients to use daily for 5-7 days after waxing.

The really evil ones will probably need a sterilised needle or needle nose tweezers to coax them out. Unfortunately, even with all the... [more]

Ask post: Balls? Check. Ovaries? Not anymore...
I think it's a lot about violating these characters, along the lines of rape. I assume the writers are trying to highlight the character's vulnerability, and such tough women don't usually reveal their vulnerabilities.

A standard rape is easier for the victim to identify who assaulted her, and seek justice or vengeance. I think the stolen ovaries thing is taking standard rape themes and cranking them up a few notches. Not only do you have the initial assault, there... [more]
