Wow-e: Malthusian Fear Mongering Can Be Annoying
Fucking love me some Wall•E.
But I am curious as to why our Wall•E was the only one left. Did he try and fix up his buddies when they went kaput? Did they screw themselves over by staying outside in the superstorms? I mean, he's been cannibalizing them for spare parts. Is it just not his directive? Man I need some closure on this.

here's a very amusing Daily Show interview with author Jonah Goldberg
Oh man that was nuts. He's just willfully obtuse about language.

That was awesome, Astro Zombie. I was gulping air to keep from crying myself.

Fat people didn't like it, either.
What? I fucking loved it. Furthermore, its depiction of fatness isn't just "lol fatty" -- they give it a context and show how much of a challenge it is for everyone. It's not just a personal fault, corporations and government have been similarly derelict in their responsibilities to encourage health. Disappearing parks, automobile-centricity, misleading food advertising, failed public transit, and... [more]

It's because Wall-E malfunctioned, and he took apart all of his fellow robots. He's a cannibal!
Noooooooo!
Mental note: Keep Wall•E action figures I ordered SEPARATE AT ALL TIMES.

A new jug ships clean
I hate kids and want the most technically efficient packaging possible, so yey.
I hear the Canadians get their milk in bags...? Like a plastic bladder of some sort? Even more space-efficient!

The bags are chemically leechy and usually not recyclable, plus they actually take up crazy amounts of fridge real estate since they lay flat & stuff.
Aw, nuts. We need to improve this bladder technology. The kids have their astronaut alcohol gel, why can't I have big Capri Sun milk pouches?
On hot days I would take em out of the fridge and stick em in ... nether areas ... to cool down.

more than a little hand-waving over the task of creating and maintaining a complex network of exchangers that has to be retro-fitted to a decades-old plant at the cost of millions that might make the project a deal-breaker
I was curious as to what other projects are like in terms of $ per megawatt and it really seems quite doable if the guy's estimates are anywhere near accurate. He's claiming $60 M outlay for a 200 MW facility. For comparison, a... [more]

Even homemade Daleks EXTERMINATE!
Are you not allowed to get creative with your Dalek outside of customizing the color? The showcase pics are all basically the same thing just different colors. What about like a Dalek Version 2.0 with I dunno a swiss army knife arm or something?
I think the general route of the obsession goes:
1. Build classic dalek out of wood
2. Build motorized classic dalek out of wood/metal/composite
3. Build... [more]

Hey wait a minute. Can't they do the reverse? Eg. take an unnatural step of pitch and make it a curve? Just do away with the singer alltogether, Idoru-style. Anyone know if they ran the GladOS dialog through this software?

There is a software out there which lets you make your computer sing. Not very well, though.
Creepy!

By the year 2040, AI will appear on computer viruses that will communicate with each other using a universal Internet language and will be programmed to fuse together and mutate into Computer Organs that will later be controlled by powerful search engines (Systems) diffused through out the Internet.

X-Ray of a Reader
I am currently using a strange sheet of stickers meant to be placed in my moleskine planner. Little rows of cake icons, first-aid symbols, and such. I find it utterly bizarre and wholly worthy of bookmarking.

An introduction to Bletchley Park
My friend, the Poles broke Enigma and gave it to the Brits, the Brits did not break Enigma.
I read the Enigma book that the movie was based on, and credit was given to the Poles if I recall correctly. The action of the story is based mainly around 'catching up' to the real-time daily machine rotor starting positions (a message 'key' to the machine's 'lock'), so that intelligence could be easier to act on later in the war -- not...
