Ask post: Cheater Quilt Fabric? What?
Is the plan to use the waffle knit on the front in one piece, the prequilted on the back, and bind with the satin with no additional batting?

I am not sure how you are planning to get the waffle knit attached to the prequilted back with out re-quilting it. The idea with the cheater fabric is that you just bind it, you don't try to put something else on top. I would suggest you either do that and bind it with the red satin or you dump the cheater fabric and get a plain... [more]

Ask post: DenimFilter: Help me patch my trendy jeans.
I would try some fusible interfacing on the inside to see if you can prevent and more ripping. Since you iron on the interfacing, there would be no stitching to show through on the front of the jeans. This may not work that well depending on how often you wear/wash the jeans. If you want a more sturdy fix, you could just whip stitch the corners of the tears to prevent them from getting bigger.

If you want to do the denim patch on the inside, just cut a piece slightly... [more]

Ask post: Apple dish ideas?
Applesauce. Wash 10-15 apples, slice them in half and put them in a pot with a cup of water and a bit of sugar (I like to use 1/4 cup brown). Turn the heat on low, let the apples simmer for 30min-1hour. Stirring every 10 minutes or so. Once they are all cooked down and mushy dump the whole thing into a food mill to get rid of the seeds and stems and skins. Then put the remains back in the pot and taste it. Add more sugar, a bit of lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg to taste.

Ask post: rosacea + swimming
Try to find a pool that uses the UV method instead of chlorine. It is becoming more popular, even some Ys have it now.

Istanbul. But, if you are going alone and are female be a little more cautious than you might otherwise be. Feel free to contact me for more info. I was there for a month and after a few uncomfortable situations, I really got my footing and had a great time.

Ask post: Are sites like Healthgrades worth the money? Are there better ways to research doctors?
I agree with Sfving, an easy and usually good method to find a good doc is to look at a teaching hospital. You've got two in Omaha. So go to the websites of the Neurology departments and read the bios on the doctors. You should try to find one that has some interest or experience in the areas where your mom needs help.

Also, you should probably check out an ENT. For hearing loss and headaches an ENT might be the best place to start and then the ENT can recommend a... [more]

Could you ask your landlord if it would be okay to replace the carpeting? If you are willing to pay for new carpeting (that you like), it seems worth it to ask.

I would also encourage you to ask friends, roommates, etc whether they have stuff around that they would be willing to donate. I have loads of office/art supplies that I don't need and would certainly give to a teacher in need.

Ask post: Socialised health care really is better.
You'll get benefits information from the company. It will explain the healthcare. Sometimes you can choose different plans, sometimes there is just one option. You may have an HMO, in which case you will have to deal with getting a primary care physcian, PCP, (pick from a list, or get recs) and then have that person refer you to specialists, like mental health. You will more likely have a PPO (assuming big reputable company), in which case you find a pyschiatrist you want to see, verify they are... [more]

Ask post: What is wrong with me?
I'd suggest you go so a rheumatologist. And, before you go to any doctor you should have a typed personal medical history to review with them. This will help them gather your history and make sure you don' t forget things.

Ask post: Form, yay! Function, boo!
If the tub is near a corner of the bathroom, you can install a corner shelf for bath products. Example 1, Example 2. I use three shower curtains with my tub. I have a ring like this and use three shower curtains: one across the back, and then one by the faucet end that comes around to the front, and one be the sloped back that comes around the front.... posted to Ask Metafilter by sulaine at 4:27 PM on June 16, 2008
The trick to using a wall or corner mounted shelf is to make sure it is either on the short end of the tub, either by the faucet or the sloped back and that the shower curtains meet there. So you already have a slit to stick your hand through and do not have pull the curtain back. There is the least amount of water spray at either end, so if your shower curtains meet at that spot and you can reach out to a shelf you won't end up with water all over the place.

Peppers, beans, cucumbers, beets, tomotoes, herbs. Depending on how warm it is there, it might be too late for lettuces (they do not like hot weather). But, you could plant them in mid-August for fall.

Madison, WI. I used to always get the New Yorker on Thursday, living in various places around town. Now I get it Friday, Sat or sometimes even Monday. I believe this is due to my current neighborhood, and if I lived in some other place in Madison I might still get it on Thursdays.

Ask post: How to deal with good person who is a bad roommate
I bought a house with the idea that I would rent a room out. It really didn't work very well, for many similar issues you have brought up. The reason many people buy a house is so that they have total control over their living arrangements. I would tell your roommate that your boyfriend is moving in in the fall, and that you'd like to have the summer to yourself to get prepared for that. Give her a date that she needs to be out and work with her to be flexible between now and then. Tell her if... [more]

Probably they were too moist in the fridge. Typically, I just make sure the bulbs are dry and put them in a brown bag, then after six-eight weeks, bring them out and then plant them either in soil or just with gravel/rocks and water and set them near the window.
