Musings
I agree with Miko - I put a few people down as "muse" because they inspire me creatively, not because I want to bone them. Please don't sully these pages with incromulent protestations as to the "true" or "original" meaning of the word "romantic" either.

MetaFilter: It is what it is
Like TPS, I don't read those other sites, so I don't give a damn what's on BoingBoing. Even so, I find stuff here that I've already been exposed to somehow or other. I don't see the need to freak out about it; I assume that not everyone has seen this thing. This kind of assumption can most often be confirmed or repudiated by reading the comments.
If you've already seen something, great! You are the man/woman/entity. It doesn't somehow cheapen this already vile site.

"Wow, look at the Boobies!"
I dunno. What is "boyzone"? Is any reference to or depiction of a woman's genitals or secondary sexual characteristics necessarily "boyzone"? Where is the line drawn? I mean, it's goofy, and it has pictures of breasts–but I'm having a hard time seeing the harm in it.

Fact is, many women have had their breasts augmented surgically, usually for reasons of vanity or commerce, and I think it's OK to poke a little fun at the practice.
And can we drop the "boyzone" bullshit? Say "sexist" if that's what you mean.

Hahaha! Grither is right; so in other words, you shouldn't do it, as there are lots of mostly insane people here.
Nah just kidding, the point of MetaFilter is to irritate the mostly-insane userbase, so post away. Post to Yahoo! Answers! too! Go nuts!

You know what's funny, is that I'm reading a story that involves the game Clue, is what's funny. Furthermore, in the story it is revealed that the game originated in England, where it was called Cluedo!
This supports my long-standing theory that Britons are totally bollocky at naming things.

A million monkeys... and some editors!
Stacey, I think that what you are describing is probably the appropriate level. It will be very important to review continuity/agreement throughout the piece, as it will have been written by nine different authors across a wide stretch of time (and space).

WPW, that's a great idea. Maybe when we have had a few people look this over, we'll get a better idea of what our expectations from our editors ought to be. Right now I am not sure exactly what it is we're looking for from our editor(s); maybe an impartial eye or two can help clarify things.

Nahh, just –the details are very hush hush right now, but trust me this will be a spectacular presentation. That's my way of saying, "we don't know how we're going to present this yet."
posted to MetaTalk by Mister_A

Seriously though, I think that the presentation should be something that will be easy to access, so either a site/minisite or a PDF. I think we also discussed the idea of having a print-on-demand option, I think that'd be nice too (as long as it's not the only way to get the book).

But seriously... WPW said what I was trying to say, and he did it using words, which is the key to this sort of thing. Let's let a few trusted readers review and point out the inevitable sore thumbs in our baby here, as we (the writers) are probably blind to this sort of thing.

We could let Metafilters artists get involved too, because every book needs a front cover.
I was thinking that too, but I didn't want to bring it up cuz I have no idea how to handle it either. Actually, I was thinking that it would be cool to have a "Cover" and also maybe a plate for each chapter, and each one could be done by a different artist or else all by the same artist or somewhere in between. That would totally rock, but I don't... [more]

While I was running in the rain on Sunday, I thought of an interesting theme for a collection of short stories: One Way.
The idea is to write about a journey, physical, metaphysical, or metaphorical, from which one does not return, so to speak. These journeys need not be tragic, but there should be something irrevocable or irreversible about them.
We could collect 'em at the end of the summer and post 'em somehow. Any thoughts

The thing is, VioletBlue was more like a columnist for BoingBoing, rather than one of thousands of uncompensated contributors like we have here. I assume she was compensated; there must have been some sort of financial agreement in place, and when you get money involved, it grows complicated. We just don't have that sort of arrangement here, because the people who work for the LLC are not really big contributors of content; the content comes mostly from the users who have agreed to the terms of...
