Taste the rainbow!
I was noticing something similar in that the green on the front page of AskMe seemed to be lighter than the green of the answer pages for any of the posted questions. On Firefox 2.01.1.3 Windows XP Pro. And the page I'm currently typing this into is a very weird puce.

Searrrch
And you can't find a particular person's posts by using the Mefi search feature like you can Yahoo or Google. It comes up empty if you put in a user name, unless the user is mentioned in the body of the comments. Sometimes, I remember that a particular user made a comment about something or I want to look at a user's recent comments and the easiest way for me to do it, was to just put their name in the search field (this is assuming that I don't have a comment by that person in front of me, in... Glad to hear that user search is coming. And that it's shit hot.

Godwin!
Yeah, I saw it in the sidebar and clicked thinking it would be some old German guy talking about his time with the Third Reich, now living in Chile, regretting the sins of his past. And then I read it and was pretty baffled. Didn't seem all that great to me and the whole time I was thinking, "So, wait, this dude wasn't a Nazi? He was just an impressionable youth caught up in the neo-con movement?" Whatever...." I can see how the more conservative among us (that's not me) might... [more]

Boooooooooobs.
This is all very discouraging. It's really pretty unbelievable to me that the sort of cavalier misogynistic behavior in both the original AskMe and in this thread has so many supporters. And now we've lost some very valuable contributers to the site as well. It's a bad day for Metafilter. And for the record, the term "sweater puppies" makes me cringe. Grow up, boys.

Honest question or veiled propaganda?
Something about this post sounds not like a genuine question, but like anti-drug propaganda.
I thought exactly the same thing. It's the naive tone and sort of how anonymous gives a very sterotypically hysterical account of his one-time use. It reads like the AskMe version of Reefer Madness.

sort of how anonymous gives a very sterotypically hysterical account of his one-time use.
But the reason things are stereotypical is that lots of people behave that way.
I guess I meant that the whole thing sounded to me like the typical hysterical hand-wringing of non-drug users with regards to what they believe will happen to drug users even on their first exposure. I meant stereotypical hysteria about drug use not stereotypical after-effects.

Cool dead seal story.
Hey, wow! My first FPP and my first callout (sort of)! Woo-hoo! The funny thing is that for the first 24 hours after I posted, I was monitoring Metatalk like a fiend, worried that I did something wrong. I'd been biding my time, watching and reading Metafilter, wanting to post something but quite honestly, a little intimidated. And then once I finally found something interesting that hadn't been posted before, I was incredibly nervous about posting it. It was like a first... [more]

Where do Metafilter people meet their mates online?...
Yeah, I asked a very similar question recently. I didn't specify that I was looking for MetaFolk but by asking it here, figured it was implied. Based on the responses I got, I signed up for Consummating but never really understood the commenting thing and got frustrated really quickly. I also signed up for OK Cupid after it was suggested, met a few people through there but none of them panned out. My current totally awesome boyfriend came to me through Craigslist.... [more]

I'd love to help you name your cat, and I'd love...
I asked what is arguably a mixed tape question about a month ago and I have to say, got some really helpful advice and some awesome suggestions.
If you don't personally know of 26 songs that mention Andy Warhol, and you can't find them via iTunes or Google or Pandora, then you simply do not deserve to have or distribute that cd.
I really don't get that. To me, asking for help looking for music is pretty much the same as... [more]

In Highbury, Islington, Nick Hornby just exploded.
Yeah, I know. People feel like music is such a big personal deal but I love music and love hearing about what other people like, even if I don't know the recommender. That's not to say that I'll like something because some random person on the internets told me I should but a lot of the music I like was recommended to me by someone, based on preferences I expressed.

Please bring back the img tag....
I'm finding Mr. A's [insert description of stupid gif] to be at least as funny as most of the img's that we've lost.
Exactly what I was just thinking. I don't need the actual picture, the description is funnier.
FWIW, I started reading/participating in Meta only recently and I guess it was right after images went away. Occasionally, I read back through old threads that have them and yeah, sometimes they're funny but usually... [more]
