ID card holder
Looks like UMX has them. Their website is not great, but I have ordered things through them in the past, and they are good. According to their pricing, you can buy them in a batch of 10, or if you need less, pay an extra .20/per.

How dumb would it be to reset the modem/router provided my my ISP?
If you reset it, it will definitely wipe out the connection settings configured in the device by your ISP (In my experience with similar Westell brand devices).
In your situation, the most preferable setup would be to reconfigure the modem/router into "bridge mode", meaning it will function only as a modem, and set the required ISP settings in your Linksys. This way, it won't NAT at all, and all port forwarding/etc will be done by the Linksys.... [more]

Oh no! Not butternut squash risotto again.
Veganomicon has recipes which are coded as "regular-supermarket-friendly" (The test used was that they were able to find all ingredients at a supermarket in Vermont). Plus the food is amazing (the chickpea cutlets have eradicated my occasional pork chop cravings).
I also subscribe to Every Day with Rachael Ray, she has a whole system of what to keep stocked in a basic pantry, and her recipes revolve around that. Every issue has a week long menu, with a... [more]

Moving To Syracuse, seeking advice
Since you mentioned small towns outside of Syracuse, the town of Manlius is lovely. There are some apartment complexes where you would be within walking distance of grocery stores, library, parks (they have a swan pond!) and shops.
Manlius has a nice Main Street with boutique shops, you may be able to find some place to sell your paintings in town. Commute to Syracuse is going to be about 30 minutes each way (note: it has been a long time since I have lived in the... [more]

Is it my issue or the ISP?
Are the IP addresses of the server and your family on the same subnet (first three segments of the IP address)?
Sometimes ISPs block traffic on the same subnet. If this is the case, you can have them reassign IPs so there is no conflict (easy if they use static IP) between the three.

Easy cooking tips 101?
Leave a small pan of water simmering on the back burner of the stove for a few hours a day, drop in some cinnamon sticks, herbs, spices, apple chunks. It will make the place smell very nice and 'domestic'.
For a nice simple dinner, I would recommend getting some fish (Salmon works well) and dropping it into a tinfoil bag (or make your own little foil bag) along with some slices of red and yellow pepper and bake it in the oven (it will steam inside the bag). Serve w/... [more]

Phones and DSL. Huh? Speak up!
Power off your DSL modem. If there is still noise on your phones, the problem is with the analog portion of the line, and your telco should fix it.
If the noise goes away, it could be either filters, DSL modem itself or even the filter in your telco's central office causing the interference.
If you change the filters/splitters, ask your ISP to change the modem out, and still there is noise...your ISP may find it necessary to open a ticket w/... [more]

Is it too early to see the fall leaves?
When I was in Camden I took a moonrise schooner trip in the bay. It was very lovely, and you can oggle the multi-million dollar yachts on the trip through the harbor. I don't remember the name of the boat/company that I went on (this was quite a few years ago), but a google search for Camden Schooner brings up a few boat options.
I also went to a wicked good ice cream shop, but again, don't know the name. As I remember it was pretty renowned, I'm sure the innkeeper... [more]

Plunging Plutonic Depths
cook 8 large meatballs and a 9th smaller one. Consume the larger meatballs and leave the 9th. Surround it with bay leaves or other decorations on a nice platter in the middle of the table.
Then drink shots of your favorite hard liquor while standing over it, and pour a little out over the 9th meatball.

First time runner.
I too found myself as a new gamer not too long ago (Rolemaster). Some of the things my GM did that made it much easier:
Arranged players so I was seated next around the table from him (he does not use a cardboard barricade).
During our adventure, would make a point to explain how things normally play out in their adventures, how the combat system works (this had to be explained a few times, as far as when I can parry or block and how much of an... [more]

I want a geeky sewing machine
Husqvarna.
Besides being high quality machines, there are many interim models between 'basic' and 'holy crap I didn't know a sewing machine could do that'. I believe the resale value should also be reasonable should you decide to upgrade in the future.
