Every day, once a day, give yourself a present.
For the record, Coop's advice to Sheriff Truman is "Everyday give yourself a gift. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just do it."
Close, but not quite. It is:
"Sheriff? I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just ... let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee."

Anger can make a man verbose
Hate to see how this child reacts if he ever encounters a real, adult, grown-up problem in the real, adult, grown-up world.

And for the snarkster saying 'Oh, grow up and find real problems to get upset about', this is the man's career you're talking about, and he's clearly a perfectionist. I'd imagine architects would get equally pissed off if someone changed the dimensions of the house they were building without telling them because they thought it looked better.
Whoop-te-doo, he's a perfectionist. Bully for him and his precious little ass. That doesn't excuse... [more]

You are beautiful.
Nothing says self-worth and self-empowerment better than vandalism!
I wonder if the minimum wage folks who will spend their time and effort scraping these stickers off of things will feel beautiful while doing so.

Watchmen Trailer is Up. It's not good.
Smashing Pumpkins? Ick. This is a story that cried out for a Miles Davis soundtrack. Mournful and lonely and smoking a cigarette while the world goes to hell.

Part two would have been a good addition to this.
My guess is that Part Two will be Ferriss' extrapolation of the story to his "escape the cubicle" beat. This, to me, was the interesting part.

Not sure I understand the comparison to Conan O'Brien.
I believe they're both young whippersnappers that need to get off Pollo's lawn.

This kind of stock-market stat geekery always reminds me of biorhythms, or horoscopes. Or those guys you see in the lounge at the racetrack with huge binders of statistics and "proven systems" of picking winning horses.

Candy bar cross-section ID quiz
See, Skor and Heath are functionally identical. Their mothers couldn't tell them apart. I'll tell you this, though - nothing in this world is better than a frozen Skor bar. Nothing.

What does freezing do to a Skor bar? I can't imagine the texture changing much, since it's already hard toffee.
Makes it really, really cold, which enhances the flavor, like, a crazy amount.
My dad worked in foodservice, so there were always big boxes of food in our house - and in the downstairs freezer there was always a 48-count box of Skor bars. I ate more than my fair share of those as a boy, a fact which I credit/blame... [more]

I am currently pouring vodka on an open wound on my arm while singing that song at the end of "Portal." I'm wearing a union jack, and nailed to my forehead is a picture of a lolkitten morphed into a photo of the pope.

Spoiler Alert.
I'm clearly in the minority on this one, but I thought this movie was quite good. The first ten minutes are ridiculously tense - no preamble, it just STARTS. And I was mystified by the I09 piece, which skewers it as an intelligent design movie. If anything, this movie puts forth a world with neither a place nor a need for a creator.
That said, his films exist in a world of their own. My wife and I have made a point of seeing each of his movies on opening night, and we've... [more]

Did anyone else notice that they went out of their way in the previews to make sure you had no idea John Leguizamo was in the movie?
Not really - they showed his suicide scene in the R-rated version of the trailer.

Also, I would like to know more of the old lady's story. Why is she crazy? Why does she live all alone in the middle of nowhere? What's with the adult-sized doll? Shamalama's next movie should be all about her.
See, this is one of the things I think he does really, really well: he drops enough clues to make you curious about plot points and try to fill in the blanks yourself. For a brief moment, we see an old yellowed photo on the mantle of a young... [more]

Everyone is an Expert on Something
Just like Profnet, this looks like it relies on the quality of the journalist in checking their facts - anybody can pay a fee to be listed in one of those big "book of experts," too. Good writers know to check up on the people they're quoting, and bad writers weren't doing that before, anyway.

Poor mans version of a Mac (Hey, at at least it works)
Why do they do it? Because they have a fetish for the brand. Why do people buy a Moleskine for $15 when they could write in a 50 cent composition book? Because it makes them feel a certain way to connect with a brand. Fostering that connection is the holy grail of retail.
