Another open letter.
Ya know,
Love is a happy time
All throughout the universe
It's when the male part of the species
Goes up to the female part of the species
And says, "Hey, you wanna go on a date?"
Then she would say, "Why, yes, I'd like to go on a date!"
If you're lucky
And then you go to a restaraunt
And she gets something called a salad
And then he gets a big piece of... [more]

So this drummer is tired of all of his musician friends teasing him about how he can't play a "real instrument." So he goes to the music store, determined to pick up a new skill.
"Hmm," he says, looking at the selection, "Let me take that red trumpet and the white accordion."
"Well," says the man behind the counter, "I'll sell you the fire extinguisher, but the radiator has to stay."

Can we get a policy regarding the ads on Metafilter?
If your sensibilities are so delicate that your world is rocked by a banner ad, you probably don't have any business on Metafilter. Besides, that's a really cute baby.

wellfeckyouverymuch, you missed the point entirely.
No I didn't, and jmd82 is right on the money - honestly, would you have complained about a Sierra Club banner?

Midwestern Meetup?
What about a New Albany, IN meetup? :) I realize it's the buttcrack of the state,
Naw, New Albany rocks! I'd be up for that, I'm in Louisville. Rich O's Public House, people, has a beer list so long it's in a three-ring binder.

Not funny.
It's just weird to me that people think these make decent conversation starters, they just don't.
Jess, forgive me if I'm wrong here, but don't the mods frequently have to point out that the purpose of an FPP is NOT to start a conversation, but rather to highlight best-of-the-web? Aren't we frequently told, in one form or another, "If you just want to start a conversation, go to Metachat or someplace like that?"

How was that post "Best of the Web"?
Didn't say it was. If a post gets deleted because it sucks, that's one thing. But deleting a post because of the way people act within it feels like letting the bullies take over the playground.

Fascinating that an 18K'er waits so long to make a post, makes that post, then leaves immediately.

Two weeks are better than one (in this case)
We're working on a new feature to look at the last three days worth of questions (a number in the 200-300 range) that comes up with those that match somewhat closely with the things you have answered in the past (it scores the categories and tags on things you've both asked and answered as well as the things you marked as a favorite). We should have something to show next week on that.
That sounds awesome. Thanks, Matt!

The only people in support of it seem to be the "people need to get a life" crowd, which to me doesn't seem like a good reason to make policy decisions.
Simply not true. The greater the volume of questions on the green, the greater the chance that someone who has the perfect answer to a question will not see said question. But again, sounds like Matt's project-in-the-works alleviates that. Rock on.

Interesting idea, although looks like most of the "bad behavior" in those threads you linked to is coming from long-time members.

I have to say that I'm not a huge fan of someone getting cut slack because they've been here longer than others.
Not cutting anyone any slack, just pointing out that a temporary ban on new accounts doesn't speak to the problem you see.
As for that problem - respectfully, I just don't see it. I still think this is a wonderful place.

Sure, but seeing as I'm in Louisville, KY...the only things I can send are cheap tobacco, expensive bourbon, heart disease, diabetes, and a miniature Louisville slugger baseball bat for the next time someone tries to get fresh with you.
See, I'm in Louisville too, and I came into this thread thinking what a great idea this is because of all the great stuff I could pull together to represent Louisville ... country ham, biscuit mix, equine miscellanea,... [more]

New Mail Pony?
That, my friends, is the perfect way to deal with the boyzone. It's assertive; it's funny; it's alpha; it's empowering; it's great.
Why's everybody always hating on Boyzone? I mean, they were no Westlife or Color Me Badd, but who is? Why all the holleration and hateration up in this dancery?

Could you expand on what exactly you're talking about so that a useful discussion can be had? Because at this point you're just lobbing bombs and snark and it's not really helpful, you know?
I'm surprised to find myself accused of being snarky - I'm a pretty consistently non-snarky fellow, and don't really know what I've said that counts as... [more]

Weblog is the type of website where entries appear, dated, with the newest entries on top.
It's also the type of website where people complain about someone stealing their Flickr photos.

But don't piss off people from various communities. If you do that they'll come and get you. As people here have proved.
Unless I've missed something, all of the people who have gone over there and posted smart-ass comments/questions have actually helped them by pumping up their level of searchable content. How did you "get them" by flooding the site with content?
