What's in a name?
I used to get two newspapers delivered every morning and always have had a couple of piles of books around me. In my lurking years I often saw places where I could jump in and comment with a factoid from something I had just read.
Eventually I dove in, but without much thought to my name.
I think dirtdirt's suggestion should be on the sign up page - "There ought to be a little warning on that sign-up thing that says, "You've... [more]

Just a curious question
Thanks for the moderation - however you do it, I appreciate it.
I am averse adding more contentious behavior to my life, but it seems many others do not have enough and turn to the internet to fill that void. When threads turn to willful misinterpretation vs enraged chip-on-shoulder-posturing, it is nice to know that peer pressure with moderator backing will cool things off.
Also - can someone post a SYTL that is funny? It's been a while. Is... [more]

I think it is the cabal. Unless I'm so out of the circle I didn't know it is the kabal.
Are there two competing secret societies?
Do cabal members have secret lapel pins?
Cabal/kabal lapel pins?

Sans quoi?
Being laid up with flu for a few days has me following this more closely than regular day to day activities would allow, so after reading IB's recent posting history, I got to say, ick.
Is she a phone sex worker? Did a "client" buy her a new sex toy?
I would like to think that people here are trying to communicate something, to connect with others, and also make me laugh. (I gotta say that whole nazi frogmen thing, pure genius)
I don't... [more]

It is snowing like a mutha here in Chicago - at the live passion play in Pilsen, Jesus is carrying his cross through blizzard like conditions. Is this a sign of the apocalypse?
And if it is the end of the world as we know it, mrzarquon - I would go for the tasty desserts

What does "leverage our synergies" mean? Is this the new baffle-em-with-our-bullshit corpspeak?
I googled it and there are consultants standing by waiting to leverage our synergies.
How much should this cost? Is there a timeframe where we can expect our synergies to be leveraged by?

Thanks Pineapple - I am a CPA (but haven't worked in the corporate world for a while)so it actually may come up sometime. Now I can nod knowingly, and offer some cost/benefit analysis poop.

Last night I fell asleep trying to catch up on what's been going on the last couple of days here. Tonight no such attempt will be made.
Love ya.
This is an entertaining sidetrack to what is so far been a crap-tacular week for me.
But made one of my best chicken noodle soups evar tonight.

Back to talk soup - had to help with homework.
Roast chicken yesterday, for stock Carcass + top half of celery + a couple of yellow onions, skin and all simmering overnight.
Drain stock. I had a lot of meat on left on the bird so with egg noodles and some veggies it was just very pleasant to come home to.
Will this end tonight?
3550 maybe?

I love cooking soup 'cause each time you get a slightly different product, the soup is better the second day, and it's one thing that at least for me, improves with age - my age, that is.
I have a chunk of ham + bone in the freezer waiting to be turned into 15 bean soup.

Thanks to some awesome, loving MeFites
Nicky, I was thinking of you today, trying to remember to thank you for something you posted last year that made me see things in a new light. So thank you - you were very helpful to me in a way that is still resonating with me.
Now I will keep thinking of you with a new focus - wishing you the best - and another thank you from me to those that are providing you such beautiful support.

I understand where Konolia is coming from. As the daughter and mother of people who hold their religious beliefs close to their hearts, and having a dear friend of 40+ years who can't help but informing them that their belief in a benevolent/vengeful ghost is the cause of all the world's problems, I have been walking this tightrope for a long time(some fun at holidays, etc).
Proselytising and LOLXTIAN animosity are verbal equilalents to me, more about the self satisfied... [more]

You are The Man.
I am a former big fan - waited overnight in line for tickets, for the Born to Run tour and The River tour. We got to meet him after the last show in The River tour. but that was at least 25 years ago, and I guess I've gotten kind of bored with his music. Still a major Rock n Roll fan. and I'm not as bored with Led Zeppelin. Don't know exactly why.
But when we met him he was truly a nice guy. He and Steve Van Zandt made sure we got all the band member's autographs. We... [more]

Chicagoland mapgeeks unite!
I am a total map nerd - many maps on my walls, many maps in my car. I would love to go to the Map Room, but I also plan to go to the Historical Society to see this exhibit.
