I can't be there either. I'm stuck working against a deadline that I've been slacking on. I was hoping to pull it off but I'm not done and need the evening to finish. :-(

Huh? Wickerman is about a pagan society ruled by Lord Summerisle, absolutely rife with phalluses. Sure, the leading man's a virgin...

Oops, forgot about the remake. Oh yeah, hey, is this perhaps another disadvantage of being a man?

There was one almost full-booth of Mefites there when I showed up around 5:35. As each further tardy Mefite showed up, the Shultzy's folks adapted first with a spare chair, then an extra little table abutting the booth, and then finally when we submitted that there could be even more people eventually wanting to sit with us, they gave us a beeg table in the back. It was great for me because there was no question who was us and who was else. Last time (at the Sunset), it was rather difficult to... [more]

The corpse in the library is really much, much warmer-- and more lively-- than one might expect. ;-)
And YES! I have the kittens you need, especially if you like mostly-black cats with folded ears and foofy tails. Two-for-one special even. And yes, I'm spaying the queen. But her babies are so beautiful, it is a very hard thing to do. Wish I lived on a farm, or at least in a big, big house.

Exactly. If his ideas were better than the other candidates', McCain would be the better choice. Which is the main reason why this analogy doesn't work. They are not the same model of car.

We've got a network - let's use it!
I suppose not everyone will consider it good news, but a recruiter at my employer has recently become interested in Jobs. When I recently posted a couple of openings, I asked first -- and got asked What was that site called again? two days later.

I search before I start to compose a post (not that it always prevents me from doubling). No work involved, unless you count this MeTa.

It might be cool if there were a button on posts of a certain age that one could press and have it show up on the blue somewhere.

Thanks for the reminder. I often fail to flag before I move on.

Sounds like De Leeuw is a fine gentleman, and the clip and post simply cast him in an unflattering light. I still don't understand the joke (and it makes me uncomfortable), but it seems the post borders on defamation.

The joke may be offensive and unfunny, but it is just a joke, and apparently, not so big a deal to some reasonable people. I didn't like it, but there are a lot of perfectly fine things that I don't understand or like. And the post was thin-- I've done that before and certainly understand posting urgency (too well). But the thread in full is unpleasant. Still, I guess in a way it's a foil to the YouTube clip.

the skit struck more than a few viewers as sexualized
I think that's the fault of the YouTube poster. Clearly the clip as posted on YouTube was intended to generate this very sort of controversy.

MeTa post:
Not funny.
It seems to me that the intent of the poster should count for something. Obviously, this was not intended to spur crude humor.
Here's a paper on Cameroonian folklore and internalized misogyny (pdf). Perhaps a little more comfortable for those with finer sensibilities.

Breast ironing is what is egregious. Although, it is an incredibly depressing subject for consideration, especially given how little I can do about it.
