MeFi post: Owney is a tramp, as you can plainly see. Only treat him kindly, and take him along with ye.
Pre-taxidermy Owney was the cutest little dog. What a charming story.

MeFi post: Read at work
I just attended a meeting where the layout from The Ice Palace was used to discuss the new PTO policy, which I am currently revising. Love. This.

MeFi post: Weezer - Pork and Beans
I can say with complete honesty that is probably the first music video I have watched, start to finish, without looking away, in years. Note: laughing the entire time.

MeFi post: Once More the Engine of Her Thoughts Began...
Holy moly, what a great list of links! I was going to mention Scott Tipton, but see that I've already been beaten to that link. Great post!

MeFi post: Blame it on Bklyn.
Having read every novel mentioned in his article and actually deconstructing two of them as part of a greater, larger thesis project on Contemporary American Fiction, I found the article insightful and interesting, however, fer christ's sake, look at his own writing. Judge the judger.

MeFi post: 'A child's spirit is like a child, you can never catch it by running after it; you must stand still, and, for love, it will soon itself come back.'
I disagree with Nelson. I did not think the article was well written. Well, in parts, yes, but on the whole it waffled from guilt, to pity, to blame - very much so mirroring the emotions that I'm sure Miller felt (or at least should have). Great article, though. Makes me want to read After the Fall again. Also, great title quote.

MeFi post: Newser
I'm going against the grain here - I actually really like this site. I emailed it to a few co-workers and now we're all trying to out-read each other the latest headlines and shout them around the office.

(It's been a long, long week).

MeFi post: The Open Library
Oh, me likey.

As for only 150 million books being published I'd be interested in that figure as well.

MeFi post: Hey fatass play some wii
Freakin' awesome. I got my Wii about two weeks ago and the day after I got it my friends and I had an 8-hour bowling and baseball playing tournament, followed the next day by sore arms and backs. Why sore? Because we were running around and swinging like goddamn idiots and getting really into the game. It was a total workout and I'm torn between saying I'm both ashamed and happy that my upper arms have become noticeably more toned since my daily Wii habit began.

Also, I... [more]

MeFi post: HelpMyBabyLive.com- There are no words
I'm really, really, really hoping it is a hoax, but I'm sure it's not. Oh god when will the stupidity stop?

MeFi post: The Doubtful Adaptation
I really hope this is brilliant and wonderful and worthy of Gorey's outstanding talent and wordsmithing. My breath is certainly not being held, however.

MeFi post: 50 capitals in 50 days
While I don't consider it hitch-hiking, this is pretty sweet. I think the rules of Amazing Race should apply, where all money has to be earned directly by the contestants, no big money-raising parties or anything like that. That all said, I would be totally stoked to do something this sweet.
