Someone stole the payroll stubbs! What do we do?
Someone can get a house or an apartment with your paystubs. Especially in New York City where the overwhelming demand for housing often supplants the need for strict fact checking.

ADP has never required us to sign for it. They usually come by and hand it to an employee. It's a small company. There are only 4 of us. But what happened is now that we think about it, we realize we haven't seen an envelope for 2 or 3 months. Everyone is on direct deposit and get paid monthly so I guess people just hadn't really considered that we didn't get pay stubs.
Today we got a phone call from a landlord demanding that the owner "come downstairs"... [more]

Gum: What are you talking about? I didn't blame ADP for anything. Where did I say anyone was to blame? I just presented the facts. I will tell the boss to hire an accountant and a a lawyer, but I'm just the graphic designer. I don't exactly have much sway in the matter.
I guess I just assumed there was some delay with the boss opening and distributing the pay stubs instead of assuming that they'd been stolen. I didn't really notice the pay stubs had gone missing.... [more]

Gum: All I said was I emailed consumerist.com. I didn't say I did what majortom suggested. Secondly, I'm just reporting what happened. I never "alleged that any old stranger can call up ADP and have business payroll records diverted to another address." I merely reported what happened. I don't know how they did what they did, nor do I know it wasn't an inside job. I presented the scenario as it happened to me, I think you have a blame the victim attitude about this. If my boss... men can't wear sundresses.
By the way, "Button-down" refers to the collar, not to the normal buttons that button a shirt. All "shirts" have buttons. Shirts without buttons are called "t-shirts." (Or sweaters, or what have you). A button-down shirt means the collar has those little buttons on the ends. (Please don't dress him in that kind of shirt either!)

Busby Berkeley Effect?
Yes, strictly speaking, it is not kaleidoscopic. I understand that, but it is indeed reminiscent of a kaleidescope. Of course, it does not have reflected images, but for the purposes of this discussion, and using the still as reference, I see that people understood what I meant. So, I guess I'm just going to have to build a filter!

What cell phone/plan do you use?
Thanks for the great answers, everyone. Currently I am on Verizon and I do notice I get better reception than my friends. Really though, I'd like to have an internet machine strapped to my wrist. I am ready for my phone/watch/computer/blender to be the same object. That sort of limits me to the super expensive $400+ phones I think, and I need a full keypad, because T9 and iTAP are rather irritating to me.

So, instead of posting google results, does anyone have a way to actually get Gmail into Reader?

How can I optimize my computer, or any computer, for Adobe After Effects and Photoshop?
@Felix. Thanks, I appreciate your response. I use footage of all sizes, from 320x240 to HD. I'm interested really in constructing a philosophical ideal and then compromising that into a practical solution. For example, I'm interested in why the pagefile should be the size it is. And I know, too, that mostly I just have to RTFM, which I'm doing.

How do people order Vicodin online without getting arrested?
Online pharmacies often have you "consult" with a "doctor" who prescribes you your drug. Consult usually means an email or possibly a chat window and I guess they probably are doctors but then again, who knows? They don't all operate illegally, they take advantage of they current drug law for their current location, but they are all definitely sketchy.
Should people be allowed to take Vicodin if they want to, with or without a doctor's permission?... [more]

Thanks guys, all of this has been inspired by the fact that I HAVE gotten my free credit reports and I have begun correcting issues and asking the credit agencies to verify every negative charge, just to see if any of it comes back clean. I know things aren't ruined, but my score right now is 500 = "Very Poor." I have not made any payments and I have not ever spoken with any of the creditors. Long before this post, I went to www.annualcreditreport.com. In addition, six months later, I wanted another report. I went to the homepages of Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax and got their cheapest, most basic reports. I asked for verification on each negative item each of the agencies were reporting. The credit score came with the Experian package.

Detecting coffee spiked with xanax?
I have to second the issues with dosing. If someone dropped a Xanax or two into ONE person's coffee, AND they stirred it well to make sure it was dissolved AND then the victim drank the entire cup without missing the stuff that settled on the bottom, then maybe you would have a case for coffee being spiked.
If you're talking about someone dropping Xanax into a whole POT of coffee, which I guess is what, 8 - 16 cups of coffee? Then you'd have to seriously spike the... [more]

Maybe I'm really weird. But today, actually this came up for the first time. Well, kind of yesterday too. I wore long underwear yesterday to work and they kind of ride low and my shirt rides up as I move and walk around the store so they kind of poke out but don't actually cover enough. A really complicated solution would be to use Virtual PC to run another instance of Windows in a window and do it that way. It isn't an elegant solution, but I believe it would work. Because the game would force full-screen on the virtual machine, but wouldn't be able to maximize the window that the virtual machine runs in.

Can't play divx files in powerpoint
Convert your video files to WMV using Windows Media Encoder. Powerpoint is better friends with that format. It will take longer to have a finished product but the video files will play more reliably. Be sure to pay attention to the Encoding options and choose the profile that most closely matches the computer that's going to be used for playback.

Yes. You will likely need two programs. 1. A DVD authoring program, like Adobe Encore, or Sonic DVDit, or various other products by Roxio.2. Possibly, and probably, a video conversion program, like Cleaner, or Total Video Converter, or even the free Windows Media Encoder. Often you will need one of these programs to convert the file into a format accepted by the program. For example, Adobe Encore will only accept files at resolutions 720x480, 720x486, or 704x480, which are digital video... [more]
