Meetup Eire?
I'll be moving to Dub in two weeks, so sometime in late September would suit me well... say the 21st or 22nd? I feel reluctant to name the place, because I can only remember the name of one or two bars from last time I visited. Any suggestions? Attendees?

Ok, Stag's Head it is. Now if anybody has a preference about the 21st, or 22nd?

Soo would we be three-strong if it was a mid-week, mid evening thing, say...September 19th, 8pm?

Ok, looks like a no-go. Maybe we can try again around Halloween. Perhaps a West-Coast meetup, too if there are more folks out that way. Either way, I'll be up for a Dublin meetup if anyone proposes one in the upcoming months.

Is calling a poster a cheap jerk appropriate for the green?
The poster wasn't asking if he's being a cheap jerk. He was asking about protocol when one feels one has been ripped off, albeit for a small amount of money, and specifically what the consequences would be regarding credit reporting agencies. I'm disappointed-- the green really could yield some helpful fact-based answers on this topic if people didn't have their heads up their asses.
Nowhere did I see a Scrooge asking "So, like, I'm filthy... [more]

Because only "Dude, that's f*cked up" will do.
What guidelines, exactly, did you think that post was breaking when you flagged it?
That the guy was a douchebag? That he's full of himself? That it's full of a naive, self-congratulatory tone?
Is that brand new and in violation of askme? If you're just pissed because you don't like the question, or what you perceive is the personality of the poster, I don't think the question should be removed. Different folks, different strokes, eh?... [more]

Holgate, it sounds like you're saying the admins should screen out questions simply on the grounds that they are going to be prone to snark. Am I understanding you correctly?

The Askventure of Link
I thought of this because in a recent question I wanted to link to an example of what I was asking about, and noticed there was no link button. I know I could have written in the link, but a button would be nice. I guess the only downside I see is if linking were already a problem in AskMefi, and this would get abused, but it doesn't seem to be. Is the reason for this discussed somewhere else that I've missed.

Step 1: ask about bread Step 2: wait two weeks; Step 3: Ask about mayo. Step 4: Wait two weeks.
Plus, simply have the discussion in Metatalk can help get people thinking more directly about a specific issue
This is very true. As a mefi noob, lurking in the grey has helped alot when I've been confused or made an ass of myself. Directing posters whose actions are in doubt over to Metatalk seems like a good start.
I think there is (or at least should be) some sort of honor system at work here. Unfortunately, it... [more]

Tiny text is hard to read!
perfect for an off-topic aside that many might want to skip. It's a feature, not a bug.
Tiny text isn't used that often (thank goodness) but in longer threads it therefore seems to stand out, effectively highlighting the text so that it's the opposite of an aside. Not less distracting, but more.
But if we make tinytext exclusion a profile option, why not italic exclusion?
I know I don't want to live in a mefi without italics.

Chi-town meetup?
soup in the city! I was just about to suggest a chicago meetup- I'll be coming back (and changing my lat/long) in April, so I'll try to be there if we have a gettogether.

Me too.
Could we have a mefite-without-mefites-nearby meetup?
But where?

And I'll second the request for something like '5 closest mefites are...'
Obviously not that worthwhile if you live in Manhattan, but nice for the more remote mefites.

KingoftheWhales: The idea of showing the n closest users does not work, unfortunately.
Why would n closest mefites not work for this thread's stated problem? If there's no one near you there must be n closest users somewhere. Obviously that's no one's problem in LA! But the city dwellers clearly aren't the ones who will have their LAt/Lon entry greeted by a 'sorry...'

I never thought I'd be able to say I saw PenguinBukkake in Antarctica.
Thanks for the maps. I see I'm a remote Mefite, but not nearly the mostest remotest. It would be neat to get this feature spiffed up. I want to see who's in the Virgin islands (is that St. Croix, I see?).

Isn't this post of mine not really an "XYZ...
"I wish to understand why people disagree with my correct understanding of the situation, but preferably without having to learn anything about the thing I know I'm right about."
Cortex- A good amount of people who responded to the question got that I was being sarcastic, and not presuming that I was right. Just that I couldn't see why the difference in geographical opinion on the artist was so starkly different.

But I see how the "tell me I'm right that xyz sucks" threads would be an awful addition to mefi, and this one seemed on the surface, to be close.

Thanks jessamyn, that's very helpful info, especially regarding the flags and email.
