Ask post: Don't harpoon the beached whale!
I do not like to see chubby girls in some outfits. I won't detail what outfits or how chubby because it is really not something i think much about. However it is fundamental that you do not limit yourself because of what i think. If you are confortable in whatever clothes you want to wear, i can always look the other way.

You may be chubby now, and you may be thin or whatever later, but the need to stick up for yourself will never go away.

I live in Spain and i never heard this expression used, or a similar one. If you want to use something more local-flavored, the spanish sure have creative curses.

Ask post: Three Monitors, One Linux (I know obscenity when I hear it)
Second results of googling "linux triple head" tell you to do it with Nvidia cards, as ATI/AMD does not support triple head. A bit more research will tell you that ATI neglected their Linux driver for a long long time and are now far behind in functionality.

This article details how to install Ubuntu 8.04 as you want. There are more on that website for different situations, and it has worked for me.

Ask post: Linux GUI-oriented programming languages
I work pretty much in what you, chips ahoy, describe. After quite some looking around i chose python and wxWindows. It is simple, stable, complete and pretty. Crossplatform works very well, and python gives you access to a large set of 3rd party modules that can do pretty much everything. wxGlade is a gui builder you can use, mainly at first because later you will probably just do it by hand in the code as it is simpler and faster.

If, like me, you need to do a little... [more]

Ask post: Growable Linux hardware RAID?
I have assembled such a system for my use, and its been working perfectly for the last year and a half or so. I used 4 250gb drives. I had to design it to grow because i did not have all the drives available at the start. I started with 2 drives, configured it to assume 1 missing drive and it gave me 500gb (minus /boot, overhead) of space with no redundancy (1 missing drive). I loaded it up to free the other drives, added a 3rd drive to the raid and it rebuilt itself with redundancy now. Added... [more]

Ask post: Seeking alternative to box.net
Can a S3 user answer if the service (and by extension JungleDisk?) still has problems with files between 2gb and 4gb? That such a bug could linger greatly turned me off from S3.

Ask post: Graphics card for Dell T105/Ubuntu machine?
As others have said, Nvidia is the way to go in your situation. Note you will have a choice of 2 drivers, the "nv" open source driver that does not do 3d and the "nvidia" driver provided by Nvidia that does 3d. I only use the "nvidia" driver, which is good but not perfect (rare X restarts when a 3d app crashes, as i play some alpha/beta games). The "nv" driver may be stable and should have acceptable 2d performance, but i haven't used it.... [more]

Also when you build a new kernel you will have to reinstall the nvidia driver.

Ask post: A cheap bastard's e-book reader.
I read books in my phone. It is a simple phone that can run java games, and i use tequilacat's ebook reader which creates a java "game" (a simple text browser) with the book you give it in txt or html format. The screen is small, but i got used to it with no problems. I must have read 20 books in it by now. If you need help finding txt books, email me. I don't know what books you want to read but i can tell you my sources.

I have used a few phones with this... [more]

Just a note on text size: you can choose your font and size from the fonts in your computer. I load my books with bitstream vera sans in several sizes that i can switch during the reading for comfort. However i am in no way knowledgeable in such matters.

Ask post: An American in Lisboa
About internet: Most ISPs (all but one!) have a monthly download limit in the order of 3 or 5 Gb. Oh, how i wish i was joking, i'm even ashamed to remember it. When i lived there, i used the DSL provider Via Networks for they were the only one that didn't have a traffic limit. They also tracked me down after i ended my contract with them to return me money i had paid in excess. I only canceled with them because i moved to another country.

Banks should give you little... [more]

Ask post: Help me design my torrent management system.
I use bitflu. While it does not do any of the things you want to automate, it does the one i think will be hardest for you to setup - It will keep sharing your files even if you move them, up to a specified ratio, at which time it will stop the torrent. Naturally, sharing after moving means at times there will be 2 copies of the torrent data on your system, but one will be automatically deleted once it is shared.

Ask post: I do this for a living, really...you'd think I could fix it.
I second the recommendation of buying new drives and ddrescue (copy) the old ones over. To start.

Then i would try to assemble the 1Tb array with the 2 good discs (screw the clicking disc). Once that can be brought online, you should add a 3rd to regain redundancy, and let ir rebuild. If all goes well (big IF) you will be back where you started.

At this point, learn Linux RAID. Use the new discs you bought to ddrescue and build a new array. Copy... [more]

Ask post: Four hard drives. One problem.
Hardware RAID is for the people that can buy one controller to run it and 10 spares for later. Or very, very lucky people.

A quick look at the previous windows software raid thread shows that a stupid dependency on the system disc prevented the migration of the _undamaged_ raid. And the thread ends with no solution found. So yeah, without going into my indepth opinion over windows "raid", i can tell you that few times is the bad choice so clearly highlighted.

Ask post: Give me wireless freedom!
Put 2 network cards on your computer. Plug one to the network, another to your wireless. Learn to live with proxy software (on the PC) instead of full blown NAT. Make sure the proxy is only visible to the wireless network (and only usable by you) and they won't find you until they search your room.

Ask post: Programming Desktop GUIs Using OpenSource
I've recently found myself looking for the same thing as you. I required it to be cross-platform (win, linux), mature, full-featured and above all easy to use and learn.

I chose python as language and wxpython as a cross-platform gui environment.

About the IDE, and following on my advice to use python and wxpython, i've found that the best IDE is Wing IDE. There are several free/Free software solutions that didn't satisfy me. The Linux KDE default text editor, Kate, is very good, and together with a couple scripts can have the functionality of most IDE's.

Ask post: Please save my subfactors!
If we're talking about a master's thesis, i too advise you to first do a backup and then do data recovery on the backup.

The very act of backing up can be quite tricky if your disk is damaged. If your confortable tools fail you, the last hope will probably be dd_rescue. This would be a Linux tool. I'm guessing that if you can't use it yourself, you'll be willing to pay your local Linux dude to help you.

Once you have a backup, there are many... [more]

Ask post: LAN of Old Machines Needs Games
I suggest Serious Sam. Its from 2001 so it should run well on your hardware. Its an FPS that i played co-op with 2 friends in a setting similar to yours. A simple game, where the learning is mostly about the best ways to kill each of the many different funny characters you face. Its best feature is a co-op play mode where you all have endless respawn so you can have long play sessions with little or no repetition. I fondly remember a pink bull-like monster that would charge against the players... [more]

Ask post: Is there a way to determine the THC content of my "Green Dragon" mixture?
While i have nothing useful to add, i'd like to ask for more information regarding your THC intake method. Specifically, the amounts and processing, and most importantly, the effects as compared to more common methods such as smoking/vaporizing.

Tbola you tempt me greatly! I have eaten cake with THC and am aware of the different cicle it has when compared with smoking. I am a big fan of that but my cooking sucks so your method might just be the thing.
