Ask post: High School Senior portrait ideas?
I had a similar experience to Tigerbelly. My mom grabbed our old camera, some B&W film and we went out in our front yard and just started taking photos. The first few shots were awkward as I really didn't know what to do but we started to have fun with it. We had a berry tree in our yard and there are more than a few shots of me throwing berries at my mom. Not a good senior pic but a fun time.

The one I decided on was one of the last pics we took. I'm sitting down on... [more]

You and I are in pretty much the exact same situation. I'm moving in a month and I've decided to leave my job about three weeks before schedule because I absolutely cannot stand it here anymore. I'll be somewhat broke when I move but now I can spend a lot of time with one of my best friends who will be moving overseas.

Quit. Don't look back.

Ask post: What happened to my windows\system32\config\system file??
Sounds like an issue with the registry file being corrupt. Boot into the recovery console and run a chkdsk with the /r switch.

Try to use your shared bedroom only as a spot to sleep (or do other bedroom-y things) as opposed to a spot to "hang out".

Ask post: What to ask other than "What do you do"?
This answer really depends a lot on the context. I was at a high school graduation party for my cousin and I asked a few graduates what their “next step” was. This opened the door to a lot of potential follow up questions (“Oh, you’re going to school to be an architect? How is the job market around here? Are you looking to go out of state to look for a job? Are you going to try and squeeze in any fun stuff before the summer ends?” etc etc).

I’ve had good luck asking... [more]

Ask post: Am I responsible for my roommate's bills if I move?
You can call up the utilities and have your name taken off. Just tell them that you'll be moving out of the apartment by a certain date and want your name removed on that date. Inform your former roommate of the situation and you'll be off the hook.

Ask post: It's not real, dammit.
Depending on your relationship with the person, say something to them. My parents used to send me a lot of that crap and a firm-but-light conversation put all of it to a stop. Much better than an email.

Ask post: There is no I in Wii
Hi all, thanks for the responses so far.

SpiffyRob: I'm a massive Mario Kart fan and I've played every other game in the series. One of the biggest draws for me is the battle mode and I was very much turned off to the game when I read that you cannot do free-for-all battle mode online. They also removed co-op Grand Prix and that was the best part of Double Dash.

Yes, I do have Wii Sports but I didn't know that you could get a replacement from... [more]

I probably should've put this info in my main post: I've bought all the VC games I could ever want, WiiWare doesn't interest me nearly as much as XBLA, and I was a previous Gamecube owner so the backwards compatibility was a nice perk but never a draw.

I think I'll sell the system now because the majority of the games being suggested are PS2 ports and while I don't own one, my girlfriend does. I was thinking of selling everything as a lot for around $350 which seems... [more]

Ask post: Anyone had regrets about a massive decluttering of their lives?
I recently got rid of 90% of my old school work and it felt great. Yeah, it was kind of hard throwing all that stuff out but time heals all wounds and now I don’t even remember what I got rid of. The secret is that nothing is sacred…go through your “Keep” pile after a week or so and see if you really do need that old desktop or 8th grade science project. Wait a week and go through everything again. And maybe one more time after that for good measure.

All of that stuff... [more]

Ask post: Why do some people wear shoes indoors?
I'll throw some more data out there.

I spent the first 10 years of my life living in a town about 45 minutes outside of Philadelphia, PA. As far as I can remember, my friends and I always left our shoes on in our houses. I don’t remember what we did during the winter with our boots but I assume we took the boots off with the rest of our snow gear.

We moved up to Vermont and everyone in our neighborhood took off their shoes in the house. This... [more]

Ask post: How do we delicately end this friendship?
I hung out with a few not-so-desirable friends when I started 5th grade and they were my friends throughout middle school. Once I got to high school, I realized fairly quickly that they were not the right friends for me and I made the effort to distance myself from them.

My parents were not too crazy about my friends either but they made no attempt to try and stop me from hanging out with them...that would've made things much, much worse. Trust me. It might be hard but... [more]

I would also try searching by when a file was last modified. If he was working on it yesterday, search for all files modified within the last three days or so and something will hopefully come up.

Thanks for the responses so far. I’ll address some things that were raised.

To the people that told me to MMOB / get over it: It would be ideal if I could put this entirely out of my mind but as I said in my post, I’m looking for tips on how to cope with this work environment until I leave in a few months. The question of why I can’t seem to ‘get over’ this is probably best suited for a therapist anyway.

Ask post: What to do for hours in a car?
Definitely invest in a Nintendo DS but it would be better if your bandmates also had one. I've wasted a few hours in a car playing Mario Kart DS against my friends.

The last time I went on a 20 hour road trip I brought along Mad Libs. Those are insane amounts of fun if everyone goes along with them. Plus, it's fun putting in food types (Mexican, Chinese, Italian, etc) when you're asked for a food. It makes things....interesting.

Allow me to present to you the Coleman Xtreme.

I bought the 62 quart wheeled version for a trip to Bonnaroo back in 2006 and it was amazing. It kept all of our stuff cold for about six days. The wheels were a Godsend and we even strapped our camping stuff to it and it made transportation from the car to the camping site easy.

Here's a tip: If you can, freeze bottled water and take that instead of ice. That way when the bottles thaw out you are... [more]

Pick a place that's a good distance away (5 miles or so) and walk there. My friends and I walked to a 24 hour diner at 3am once and it was a lot of fun. We took our time, wandered through the woods and a few construction sites and it really felt like we accomplished something when we arrived.

Yes, I was talking about people that pull far ahead of the Stop line without stopping first. One of these intersections is slightly blocked by a building and I often creep forwards after stopping so I get a better view of oncoming traffic. And yes, some of the Stop lines are set a little far back.

I think I'll put a greater distance between me and the car in front of me in case they decide to pull ahead so... [more]

GTA IV will probably be the biggest selling title of the year. In terms of sales, it's this years Halo 3 except GTA IV is multi-platform.

That means you'll be able to walk into most B&M stores on the day of release and it'll be on the shelves. Best Buy and Circuit City will be more likely to have it on shelves while Gamestop and EB Games might just have enough to fulfill their preorders.

I've never had an issue buying a major game on its... [more]

I'm a guy. I always liked to pay for dinner. When my current girlfriend and I started dating, I would indicate that I would be paying by physically picking up the check when it came or other, non-verbal cues. She would always offer to pay. I would tell her to not worry about it. She would then ask if she could at least chip in a few dollars. I would politely turn her down again and then she would say "thanks!" with a big smile.

I asked a similiar question last year. My situation sounds almost exactly like yours - landlords didn't return the deposit in time and when they did, they deducted some repairs and didn't give us any interest.

Write them a letter, see what they do. If you don't get the full amount + interest back, take them to small claims court. As long as you have proper documentation, you should be fine.

Don't expect to get double the security deposit back.... [more]
