Hi, everybody, eh!
Knowing that physicians’ fees are the real cause of the health care funding crisis, Dr. Nick produced a TV ad in which he offered to do any surgical procedure for just $129.95 (Can$193.95 at time of writing).
Holy crap the Canadian dollar was weak back then.

synaesthetichaze, if you're going for classy that meal just has to be washed down with a gravytini. With a blob of some as-greasy-as-possible bacon replacing the customary olive, 'natch.

Sorority Discrimination?
A Thousand Baited Hooks: Canadian universities sometimes have fraternities and sororities affiliated with the same organizations that the American chapters are, but they don't (usually) carry the cachet that they tend to in American campus life.
They tend to not be sanctioned by university admin, so recruitment/rush isn't the focal point of campus at any point and housing isn't their main draw at some schools. That, and the fact that Canadian schools usually have less... [more]

"It's like cancelling John Peel": R.I.P. Brave New Waves, 1984-2007.
Grant Lawerence (of Radio 3) was doing a talk at this journalism conference a couple weeks ago and commented on the relative success of the Radio 3 podcast and the demise of the Saturday Radio 2 night show...he was saying that the idea of "appointment listening" just doesn't work for an active, upwardly mobile demographic. He's got a point; even if the CSC does decent youth (by which I mean anyone not in diapers) programming, terrestrial radio might not be the best... [more]

YouOS
"When ggogle get it right, as they will; I think companies like this will unfortunatly find life increasingly difficult."
I think companies like this are sort of depending on Google for life past their first 15 minutes of fame; YouOS got its start from Y Combinator, a VC firm whose exit strategy of choice seems to be acquisition. As long as there's enough proof-of-concept for someone to buy them out, maybe YouOS doesn't care that their... [more]

Monsieur Chat
The sorta-stylized copyright symbol (see here, from some blog and possibly not in the flickr pool) is wonderfully, subtly ireverrent. Or maybe I'm looking too hard.

Soup
"I found a handful of ingredients really add a lot to even the cheapest commercial soup..."
...even that sketchy 79 cent/box store brand chicken noodle soup mix. Adding some paprika, cayenne and chopped celery (or carrots or onions) makes it more edible.
nickyskye, that ramen hack sounds delish, though.

The Wonder Year
In Canada, tuition is per course. Is it per year in the USA?
Canadian universities cap tuition at some point, usually. My own university lets students take their 6th and 7th courses (per semester) for free if their GPAs are high enough.
