Landscape gardener recommendations

Bay area landscape gardeners—anyone have a recommendation for a good landscape gardener on the peninsula? My yard is sad.

The Gopher Menace

Gardening question:

I bought what I thought was a pretty good garden hose and it's already kinking up like there's no tomorrow. What's the best material/best brand?

Dear MetaTalk,

I never thought I'd be writing to you, but I wanted to tell you about the hot action at the SF MeetUp last night. [more inside]

I have a rental property and am about to rent it out for the first time. The trouble is, my potential tenants seem shaky to me. Two single mothers with a total of three kids. One has a foreclosure in the past and they have a few credit glitches. My property manager says he is 80% good on them. I'd like to give them a chance, but I am afraid I will get screwed. This is the first bite we've had on the property after a month of listing. Advice/horror stories/divine inspiration?

Tom Wham Games

Tom Wham designed so many of the games I loved when I was a kid. Tucked away in the pages of Dragon Magazine were such classics as The Awful Green Things From Outer Space (Epilogue here), Snit's Revenge, Elefant Hunt and more. Little tiny games with little cutout paper pieces you would lose instantly, they were something to cherish.

Ray Harryhausen brought wonder to my childhood, with the painstaking process of stop-motion animation. In these days of CGI special effects, perhaps a look back to the days of the Hydra and the wondrous skeleton army would not be amiss. There was a real humanity to Harryhausen's creations, as detailed on this nice site. Perhaps even more interesting are the films that never were, like his Baron Munchausen, The Tortoise and the Hare and his vision of War of the Worlds. Also, criticism of Harryhausen. Last link: a chat with Harryhausen.

I see a lot of front page posting with a slightly different angle on the same thing...with a link to story in the Independent or CNN or MSNBC...Shouldn't people be reading those sites if they want up-to-the-minute reports on the WTC and all its ramifications?

I am glad you could all make it to this little meeting tonight. The topic of conversation:

What in the name of all that is holy is the TicketStub Project?

The floor is yours.

Tom Lehrer Retires – Tom Lehrer has finally hung it up as a math lecturer at my alma mater, UC Santa Cruz. I couldn't find a web link specifically about that, but thought it was OK to use a link about the man himself. My Banana Slug Bulletin said he retired so it must be true.

Amorous Monkey Business Outrages Town A Sri Lankan town being terrorized a monkey (Important note: not a "Monkey Man" or "Invisible Bear") "flirting outrageously with cats and dogs". Aroused monkeys! Hide your children! (Another important note: This is in fact my first link. Be gentle)
