Hi, Need to get away in June
I've heard bad things about the Clarion as well. Best if avoided.
The Hilton is by far the best hotel at the Oceanfront. The one problem with it as far as your criteria is concerned is that the bar and restaurant downstairs, Catch 31 is always packed, so you may not like it for that aspect. (I had my birthday party there Friday - lots and lots of fun, so I have to encourage you anyway). It's at the corner of Atlantic and Laskin, near the awesome statue of King Neptune.... [more]

A rose by any other name...
Also, why not use your screen name? You could be Erin Sephira.
I could, but currently my middle name isn't what I could consider a 'real name' and I consider it to be a source of embarrassment. My last name is very unusual, and difficult to pronounce and spell, so something simple without any kind of confusion is what I'm aiming for. Unique is not so good, as I dislike that I'm the only "Erin MyCurrentLastName" in the world and it makes me... [more]

To clear things up, I am not hiding from anyone, and I don't hate my family. I do hate my name though. My middle name is a constant source of embarrassment for me, and I have a lot of personal issues that go into my hatred for it, and frankly if I don't have to be straddled to it the rest of my life I'm not going to. My last name is long, it is difficult to pronounce and spell, and generally a pain. It is not "the key to my ancestry", and let's not overcomplicate the issue. In the... [more]

Must...stop...eating. (Oh, and shopping, too.)
From what you wrote, it seems to me that, yes, you have food issues, but I don't think you've a disorder. Talking to a therapist may help you find out why you feel the way you do towards food and meal-time, but you've essentially described every other normal person on the planet - there are comfort foods, and occasionally we tend to gravitate towards them more and more when life becomes stressful.
The main concern here is your binging and your feelings about it - how... [more]

Profane language translation request
It's Tagalog. From the little I know...
Putang = Bitch
ina = mother
mga Indian = Indian
kayo = woof, dog(?)
Something like "your mother is a bitch, you dirty Indian dogs." I'm sure of the others, less sure about kayo though.

I'm so lonely I could cry...
Yes, I have a job, but everyone here is significantly older than I am (think 25+ years difference).
Did the hobby thing. No dice. And yes, I act like myself, and it's not that I'm trying too hard - I wasn't trying at all up until yesterday when I went I went to the movies and shopping alone that I made the decision that being lonely sucks and I needed to do something about it.

Let me just say that I'm not introverted - I don't have a problem meeting and talking to people, it's making those acquaintances lasting friendships. I know a lot of random people, but I don't have a strong bond with anyone. I want to move past the acquaintance stage and into having a friendship.

@Brandon Blatcher: I did things like join a Stitch n' Bitch, but the women there were all older housewives with children. The younger set was too young, still in their teens.
@game warden to the events rhino: I work in an office with a bunch of older men, with whom I really don't have anything in common with other than our place of work. Even if we did have something in common, I'd like to avoid the "making the wife suspicious" or "younger girlie wants a... [more]

a) The cheapest you'll find is the Comfort Inn (there are two, I think) or America's Best Inn. Typically less than $60/night, I'm told by someone in the industry, but not by someone who works there, so don't quote me on that.
b) Have the lamb at Le Yaca. For more casual dining, Pierce's Pit BBQ. Even more casual, one of the many many many pancake houses.

I want to keep them separated because I don't use my laptop daily, and don't want to have to fire it and iTunes up just for the podcasts. But, I use my XP machine daily and would like to get them there. I want to keep the music off of the XP machine since it's my work computer.
Also to note: when I plug in my iPod here (work) and it shows up as "diabhal", it does not list it as being manually managed.

Not saving a bunch of money on my car insurance...
IAAIA, but not your agent. What you want to do, is remove the license plates and turn them back into the DMV. Call GEICO and cancel the insurance. When you do this, tell them that the car never left PA, and they should do an adjustment for you. When you want to drive it again, re-register it, call GEICO up, and there you have it. If you do this within 6 months from beginning to end, you reinstate the policy, and you don't have to say anything about having a lapse in insurance.... [more]

The Tooth Fairy
My parents told me that she looked like the Blue Fairy from Pinocchio. But it's all about the mystery. Be vague. You'll find ways to make it work.
When I was about four I lost my tooth when I was washing it off in the sink. I was devastated that the tooth fairy wasn't coming. The next morning I had my money and a teeny tiny note under my pillow from the tooth fairy explaining that the 'sink fairy' had given her the tooth. It took me... [more]

I bought my first set of lock picks online from these guys - ugly site, great customer service.
The law in Virginia is somewhat similar. Your best bet when you own a set is to keep them at home, just in case - you don't want to be caught at the wrong place at the wrong time with your kit. Never mind that criminals would sooner smash and grab than go through the trouble of picking a lock to get inside. If I carry picks with me, I only carry one or two of the tools with me... [more]

iPod + car charger = BZZZZZZ???
I've been using a DICE setup since I got my car, and I love it. It allows you to play through the radio (sounds awesome, no crappiness) and charge at the same time (if you've radio controls on your steering wheel as I have you can use that as well). You can find used ones on eBay fairly cheap I, it's how I got mine.
You will however have to dismantle your dashboard to plug it into the back of your radio, so this may or may not work for you.... [more]

Sounds to me like it's Da Da Da by Trio. It's an 80's song that became popular in the 90's as it was featured in a VW commercial. Youtube is blocked at work for me, but I'm pretty sure this is it.

eating disorder?
I'm not terribly familiar with this particular end of the spectrum of eating disorders, but what you describe sounds a lot like what I heard in group therapy. It does sound as if you are a compulsive overeater, which can put a lot of strain on your body the longer it continues. From what you've said, it sounds as if food has become your friend - it's always there when you need it, no ice breaker necessary, no worries on what it thinks of you. It went with you from home to the UK, and makes you... [more]

Is what I'm doing binge eating/drinking?
At a glance, no, this is not binge behavior. Binge eating can't really be defined in concrete terms (one more potato chip and it's a binge; eating x calories in one sitting; etc) but is based more on emotion. Feeling out of control when eating, unclear recollection while you were eating, very heavy feelings of guilt and remorse after eating (with possible action to "punish" oneself for the binge). To me, you just sound like someone who takes advantage of a cheap... [more]

Minor damage to borrowed car - next step?
IAAIA, but not your agent.
The insurance goes with the car, not the person. You would be covered in this case. However...
Don't call the insurance company. Aside from the fact that they won't talk to you since you are not the insured, this is a very minor claim that would probably end up costing less than a $500 deductible AND it would count against your parent's policy as a lending loss. A very bad thing to have.

The fates of the wives of Henry VIII can be remembered as "divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived". Not entirely accurate, but close enough.
