My Dawg vs Dog
Mind your own business.
A dog that cowers when you enter is probably being hit. Don't listen to the advice above. Besides, who the hell wants to live in a piss and shit stained apartment, you'd be doing them a favour.
I do think you should make new friends though.

Free Vector Graphics/Borders for a Wedding Invitation
Try a search on istockphoto, they also do vector illustrations as well as photos. Not free but $10 or so isn't much to add to your wedding budget and some of the illustrations are really good quality. I got a couple of backgrounds off there for my invites, turned out really well.

Flash video in portrait?
Why would you prefer this? As all video tends to be lanscape will you not just end up with a big letterbox black top and bottom?
Is it to integrate on your own site with your own fla files?

Have you had a graphic converted to html and css?
I have actually provided this sort of service to clients in the past but I can't really say what sort of service these companies provide.
For their sake and yours make sure you have tied down the exact requirements as toomuchpete mentions above. Detail exactly what you expect to be provided and get that confirmed in writing.

Backup web interface?
this doesn't answer your question I'm afraid but have you looked into Amazon Simple Storage? there is an app that ties in with it nicely called Jungle Disk. It's so incredibly cheap. I back up all my photography (about 30GB) and last months bill was around $10.

How common is familiartity with .ZIP archives?
Is it safe to assume that anyone professionally employed in a computer-using job (secretary, assistant, ect.) is familiar with ZIP archives? What about the public at large?
In my experience (dealing with office assistants and people employed to update web sites) it is never safe to assume anything about other users abilities. Always provide instructions (just in case) and assume they know nothing regarding what you are asking of them.

Why the stomach thump?
As I sit here I can feel my gut pulsing against the desk in time with my heart.
First time I noticed it was a few weeks ago when I was out for dinner, had Tartare de Boef (never order a dish if you don't understand the language!!) and afterwards thought my stomach was talking to me.
Next day I realised it was still doing it. Either it never did it before that uncooked minced beef and something has gone horribly wrong, or it has always pulsed but... [more]

What to see in Ireland?
THe route I would take would be the coastal route from Belfast... so head out towards Carrickfergus (there's a castle there, nothing special but it is pretty complete), up through Larne and along the coast. A couple of hours will take you to Dunluce Castle, the rope bridge and the giants causeway are all round there (as well as Bushmills distillery). You could then head on to Coleraine, down through Derry (maybe stay there for the night?) Donegal then Sligo (I love Sligo, beautiful area to drive... [more]

Amnesty do excellent work, I'd recommend supporting them as well as any other support you may give to other organisations.
Regarding your second question. I've had this dilemma as well. Some artists such as Banksy have succeeded in turning heads in the mainstream... I don't really have an answer I'm afraid, but I bet most other people in the creative industry feel very similar to you.

Do I tell my engaged friend that I love her?
I also know that we'll still be friends even if she is married, and I hold no illusions that this is the end of my world.
There you go then. It's not the end of the world and you'll still be best friends. Tell her and both those assumptions will probably go up in smoke. For your own sake, don't say a word.

Ireland in 4 days!?
True, Galway city isn't everything (I was disappointed) but the Galway coast is amazing, absolutely beautiful. If it was me I would head over to Galway, then up to Sligo, Donegal, Derry, and follow the coastal route round the north coast, round to Belfast, then back down to Dublin.
Would be a nice road trip and doable in 4 days.
Alternatively I'd recommend Dublin then the Mourne Mountains.

This question is so n00b that it hurts.
Thirding W3 schools, and agree with Baud - stay away from wysiwyg. For CSS, if you use a mac, try CSSedit, I found it really handy when learning as you can build up your styles visually and see how it's written out. When it comes to html editors try get one with autocompletion as this should help you also.
Another tip is to plan everything out on paper first. Draw your page, work out your content containers and how they relate to one another. Then try writing out your... [more]

Tomorrow's design today
I'd agree from a purely graphic design viewpoint that a David Carson/Grungy style will be a bit more popular in the months ahead. This makes sense as both a reaction to the clean shininess of current design (and overzealous use of istockphoto) and also as a reflection of a bit of a return to this style in the real world - late 80's/early 90's indie seems to be making a bit of a comeback, although maybe that's wishful thinking on my part. Everything in cycles.

Sorry, I missed that. The port should be easy enough then... but you will need to get the content/images/styles from their current provider, then create a new template that looks like their old site and then copy and paste the content from old to new.
Will still be a pain in the hole but if there's nothing special about the site you couuld probably do it in a day or so for them

Recommendations for lightweight HTML editor for Mac?
I work around it when I can by pasting the text from Word into Dreamweaver, which keeps the style formatting but drops all the {span} nonsense and then copying the HTML code that Dreamweaver creates into the CMS's editor.
If you are just trying to retain Word formatting then try this, an online tool but really handy and saves you from opening Dreamweaver.

As an aside though (because I am a developer for a CMS), the preferable approach would be to use the CMS as intended - if the default size is too small get the designer/developers to increase it.
Always best to have a consistent style throughout the site and formatting in word or Dreamweaver without sticking to the styles defined in the css is just messy and can end up making a site look very unproffessional.

For a great caffeine kick try a double espresso topped with a filter coffee. Just like americano but you are using coffee from a French Press instead of water to top your cup up. Tastes great as well!
As a side note I've been experimenting with putting dried chilli in with my coffee for blow your head off espressos. Deeply satisfying and an experience well worth trying imo.
