Should we buy cellphones for $5 or not?
The phones that make it to the pay as you go market seem to be the successful older models or ugly-cousin to more recent successful models... The pay-go dealers then lock the phones down (sim card locks, handset locks, etc) and make their profit on the combined cheapness of the phones and overpriced airtime rates.

Don't know if it's a standard, but I've used a 2.5 mm stereo/mic jack'ed headset with FRS radios, a motorola cell phone, and a home 2.4ghz wireless phone...

FCKeditor is integrated into some wiki products I've installed, but I haven't installed it separately before... I would think that it would relatively easy to include the code in your html page (the docs page has scripts using * SP.Net * ASP * ColdFusion * PHP * Java * Active-FoxPro * Lasso * Perl * Python. Here's an alternative commercial solution (via hotscripts).

Thanks AmbroseChapel, cushycms looks interesting... I could see them succeeding with a business model like 37 signals, where this half-hosted approach works.

I'm doing my recording on the iaudio m7, which has an unpowered line-in jack (but since it only saves as compressed wma, I might look into other recorder options later..)
spiderskull, I've considered USB powered devices, with the idea that I could power them with something like this.. However, to buy something like the Minty USB charger (or build it) might make the kit too bulky...

Help Me Close The Tray From Hell
I might be misreading winston's method, but it sounds like it might cause a power surge that could fry something...
Slight modification: if you're opening the case, turn your computer off, then use a straightened paperclip to push the 'manual open button' (in the small hole on the outside of the drive). Finally, pull the power clip from the back of the drive to disable it entirely.

Come to the CMS
These designers do most of their work in other mediums (film & print) so the web stuff is mostly secondary to their main incomes. I'm looking for a way to help them transition into using CMSs...I've been working with them from the hosting side.

Obligatory shout out to mefite frentic for an easy to install php based digital download web store. (You didn't say what your products were.. ) Uses Amazon for hosting and PayPal for payments. The newest versions might support physical products as well. Link.

Lend me your earbuds
Seconding seanyboy... They're the best headphones I've ever owned. (In Michigan's Upper Peninsula, it's nice to be able to put on a toque, then the headphones, then a hoodie; earbuds would freeze if you had to take them out to talk to somebody.)

If you plan on buying online, ebay seems to have a LOT of earbuds that may or may not be fakes. (Prices 1/5 of reputable online stores, huge lots of one brand across different dealers, etc.) It might be worthwhile to deal with a larger retailer, or one you have experience with.

War. What is it good for?
Here's a hypothetical scenario, the 50GB+ optical drive market is segmented by the manufacturers into Blue-Ray for 'movies/games' and HD-DVD for computer storage... If Blue-Ray players never become standard on PCs, that eliminates a lot of potential software hackers from experimenting with the formats security features *unless your PC uses Intel ViiV or some other 'trusted computing' 'feature'.

Two month update... I've had a LensoClean for about two months now, and... underwhelmed. The extra handling that the lenses get going into and out of the basket holder, combined with the unhygienic recommendation by the manufacturer not to wash the device are weak points IMO. The results achieved reflect the lack of power of the device (~8W) versus higher powered light industrial devices.... [more]

Why does my computer keep freezing?
Is windows a legit copy? (Without any evidence that this is a likely possiblity, I would suggest that most virus scans likely wouldn't detect a virtualized rootkit--- and minor system errors from a sloppy virtualized install of windows would likely accumulate over time as you describe.

Nevermind.
AUGUST 1, 2007 | LAS VEGAS -- Still, the researchers admit this type of rootkit isn't a real threat today. "We've seen three VT-type rootkits, and none are in the wild infecting systems," Lawson says.

Can anyone give some advice on starting up a website?
A couple points:
I would first recommend nearlyfreespeech.net for your hosting (at least to begin with). They charge by usage (for the bandwidth and storage you use), and are responsive to support issues related to using a shared hosting server environment.
Two possible routes for building your site include the above-mentioned CMS approach; i.e., reading the included template files and code, then customizing it yourself using a text editor, helped with the... [more]
