Ask post: I know you know this comic. Help me with the name.
PBF just posted a strip a few weeks ago. Perhaps signaling a return? Or just finding a pre-existing file somewhere in the great expanse of digital media.

Try 00000000

That's eight zeros. The default GSM pin code for most phones.

Ask post: Oldbuilders unbellyfeel Lego.
While everyone here has brought up a lot of good reasons, the best I think is the lack of replaceability. If all of the bricks were interlocked as well as mortared together, it would be impossible to change out a piece of the wall. This is often done in older facades, or whenever there is damage to a brick building (if it can be safely done). Since these bricks are all rectangular, replacing a given brick is as easy as removing some mortar and sliding it out. If they had interlocking nibs, this... [more]

Ask post: Are these meditation CDs any good?
While it is true that playing two notes simultaneously will "generate" a third tone (whose frequency is determined by the difference between when played in the same medium, it is false that this could create any kind of brainwave. DTMF is a great example of this kind of "beat" frequency in the real world, but in the real world, listening to one tone in one ear and another tone in the other does not generate a beat frequency in the mind. Although it would be an interesting... [more]

beaucoupkevin has it on the head. Even better, since I'm guessing you're dorming or otherwise in University housing, you'll likely not even pay for the electricity to shred the stuff.

Pro tip: If you get one of the cheapo strip shredders instead of the nice cross-cut shredders, make erratic folds (like one or two) in your papers before shredding them, and then mix the strips all about in the garbage bag. This will make your paper... [more]

Didn't you just prove that the dye is soluable by nail polish remover by getting into this mess? Plain white paper towels soaked in nail polish remover should do the trick.

Another advantage is that you also already proved that nail polish remover will not damage this tub.

Good luck!

Ask post: Fun DS/Wii games for a couple
My girlfriend would have to disagree with you, mumkin. She loves picking up starbits, and she's a freakin' machine at it. She's not much of a videogame person, so she enjoyed the low-stress, low-difficulty gameplay of picking up starbits while I tried to get that fucking plumber to jump the right way this time.

But, as I said, she's not much of a videogame person. If she was into more than just Mario Kart, she'd probably be bored by being starbit fetcher extrordinare...

Thanks to WiiWare, there's another really cool option for you: Defend Your Castle. My girlfriend and I mercilessly destroy the stick figures that assault our castle. Whoever gets the most points in a given level gets to decide what upgrades are made before progessing to the next one.

And it's only 500 Wii Points (5 USD, if that's your poison)!

Did they do a stool sample with a culture? I know you said they tested for C. diff, but you may have a parasite. I had Giardia for nearly a month (primarily because I was travelling and couldn't see my doctor) and it was, at its height, a whole bunch of water shitting (once every hour or two). However, I was otherwise healthy (so long as I kept my fluids up), and was not taking anything even remotely near your level of medication. And I had my gall bladder (still do, thanks). Ask post: Lack of Trust in My God in a Box
Frankly, this does not sound so much as a crisis of faith as it is depression. Recall that one of the major symptoms of depression is hopelessness. In addition, depressed people no longer find enjoyment in things they used to love (sound like your current relationship with your church?). Maybe find a therapist, or talk to your pastor/priest/whatever about faith-friendly therapy.

On the other hand, I am only a man of my personal cloth1, and not of faith, so there you go.... [more]

Ask post: Will they find the pirated cable?
TedW, the Over The Air (OTA) analog signals will go away. Most cable providers, however, will still be downconverting to analog for basic cable. Of course, YMMV, and every provider is different, but most cable providers are like any other utility: hesitant to change.

Ask post: UMA over High-Latency Link
b1tr0t, I realize that the delay will be wicked annoying for voice calls, but it shouldn't matter for things like MMS and SMS, which is what I'd primarily be using way out there.

cgomez, thanks for the warning about even the latencies found on cable connections. I will be in contact with my cable provider about caps and about improving our currently iffy latency performance.

Ask post: My body hates jogging...
The biggest training hurdle I had when I started jogging was learning to, as WickedPissah says, is pacing your breathing. I had much the same issues as you with running: I could swim for miles, sprint for several hundred yards in the water, but jogging would bring back childhood memories of asthma attacks.

First I took my pace down, got comfortable with jogging rather than running, focusing on keeping my breathing regular, and trying to breathe... [more]

I'm male, but I had identical symptoms to this when I was on a generic for Relafen (an NSAID — think super-Advil) for a back problem. Are you currently taking an NSAID regularly? They include ibuprofin (Motrin, Advil), naproxen sodium (Aleve), and even good old aspirin. Eventually my Dr. switched me to an NSAID with an anti-emetic, which worked wonderfully.

I use WinSCP for all my Windows secure file transfer needs. I've never used it for FTP, but I just checked, and it works. For the secure forms (both SCP and SFTP) it can enable compression, which is nice.

Another nice feature is that you can download it very easily as a standalone app.

Ask post: Is it possible to connect or network 2 computers that both have wifi and wired nic cards with crossover cable
Should be possible, yes.

The easiest way would be to give the two machines' wired network cards static IPs on the same subnet that is distinct from your WiFi network. So 10.1.1.1 and 10.1.1.2, for instance. Then use your OS's favorite form of file sharing to map drives/folders to each of the other machine.

With your OS info we can tell you exactly how to do this.

The netmask should be either 255.0.0.0 or 255.255.255.0, either will work. You will not be using DNS over this connection, so you do not need to set one. Assuming you've already created the shared folders (AskMe has several dozen explanations of how to do that), you should be able to get to the other's shared folders by going to \\10.1.1.n\ in Windows Explorer, where n is the last number of the other machine.

damn dirty ape, while I agree that your solution is the simplest, it's unnecessary to disconnect the WiFi so long as you use a different one of the RFC 1918 reserved private networks. That's why I suggested the 10.0.0.0/8 because their router is almost certainly using 192.168.0.0/16.

Do you have a "suspend" button on your cable modem? Hit it and wait a few moments. Check your connectivity then. If that doesn't work, reboot the router, and try again. If that doesn't work, refresh your computer's DNS (go to cmd, ipconfig /renew ). And if all that doesn't work, hit that suspend button on your modem again, try all the above one more time, and then call your cable provider and make them fix their shit.

I'm pretty sure the required pressurization of champagne (or any sparkling wine, for that matter [Cava, Prosecco &c.]) would be highly incompatible with any box wine's box design, which usually have things like vents to allow the liquid to flow.

Closest thing I could find was this sparkling white in a can. The reviewer is not impressed.

You can try and strengthen the transverse abdominus, which is used to suck in your gut. As you do other core exercizes, try to suck in your tummy. It may not necessarily firm it up, but will set a new zero point for you. It hasn't worked for me yet (I don't do as much core work as I should) but it did wonders for my mom.

In all cases, half is paid out after three months, and the other half after six. It is not paid out in the case of fresh-out-of college referrals unless the person has been out of school and working for at least a year.
