Anyone mentions "gibson" they get to buy a round.
I was there for HOPE 6, and it was supposed to be the last one as the Hotel Pennsylvania is getting turned into condos, or something. However, development plans being punctual as usual, the guys that organize HOPE were able to throw one more this year.
I'll be there.

Why would an "International" House of Pancakes hold a "National" Pancake Day?
Same sort of reason as they have a "World" Series with only American teams?
We have Canadian teams too. They're almost a seperate country.

I think that adding the status and seeking lines would be just enough. And I really like the free-form "I am _____ looking for ____" idea. Going whole-hog with the profiles and ratings and shit would be blind to the function of the site: community. As billyfleetwood said, it's the place of common activity that is key here.

Gah! I think I found the original Los Alamos report by looking through some of the links on critical mass. Most especially Criticality accident on the Wikipedia.
However, the NRC page has this comment, which references this which has this excellent summary of the incidents. That last link is the one I read way back when. Thanks cortex!... [more]

NYC Meetup?
I'd love to make this my first NYC meetup, but I'm afraid I'll probably still be at Lunacon.

OTOH, does this happen to anyone else? Occasionally I'll leave this machine on at work and after a few (2-3) days it simply fails to get any RSS or Gmail updates. Loading web pages still works. Running Win XP Pro with Firefox 2.0.0.1. Restarting fixes the issue.
No particularly interesting (read, not network-access-based) extensions save NewsFox, which I don't use and will likely uninstall shortly.
Strangely enough ForecastFox still has no... [more]

BTW, I recommend using the cellphone style keyboard rather than the QWERTY as the buttons are bigger, and I just found it a lot less frustrating (fewer errors).

Plutor: "Deets here, please. What's the "unstyled title tag"? Do you mean attribute? And what do you mean clipped off? Are you referring to the 'Long tooltips should allow wrap to multiple lines' bug? It's annoying and old and hasn't been addressed, but I wouldn't characterize the situation as "they won't fix it"."
In addition, there's an extension entitled "Popup ALT Attribute"... [more]

I think this would be awesome. It would also be useful to add the ability to redefine (or at least alert others to the presence of) dead links. I was recently reading some posts from 2001 and I'd guess that 30-50% of the links are now dead. The Wayback Machine may help...

I would also like to present myself for the purpose of volunteering, even though my account is young, I've been reading MeFi for ages and would love to help out.
