MeTa post: Yes we can meet up in Berlin?
Hey, just got back into town and caught the meetup announcement. I am interested in whichever day, though it does indeed look like the 24th will be Obama, and I am eager to do to that. They still don't know where it will be though.

Max and Moritz isn't too expensive, it's got plenty of space, and it's not too far away from most places, so I think it's a good pick.

A little late here, but this calls for a 1-line pony:

As a new Berlin transplant I'd like to meet some of you all too. Kotti is perfect.

MeTa post: It's not rape if you're a guy?
If there're two people blacking out and they have (by definition) non-consensual sex, how can we tell the difference between the rapist and the rape victim? Isn't it a bit silly if both of them are victims and rapists at the same time?

I was thinking that in a sexual encounter there's at least one person performing sex. You cannot have two people, neither of which takes an active role, and end up with "whoops, what just happened there" accidental sex. At... [more]

MeTa post: Not Awesome

The cleaning staff take one night off and the place has poo smeared on the walls within minutes.

Ahhh, but what if this is not a coincidence? Perhaps we know to wait, yes?

Vronsky, za zdorovye! Drop me an email next time you are wanting to make fun. Levin is bringing goat.

MeTa post: The scourge that is WebMarshal
If http://ip.address works, at what functional level is your nanny blocking the site?

If the IP address works, but you need the http request to be to 'www.metafilter.com' for the virtual host to work, you can bypass the DNS lookup by adding www.metafilter.com to your /etc/hosts file. It's worth a shot -- it depends on whether or not the nanny is blocking based on the domain name lookup or the HTTP request headers.

The ssh tunnel or web proxy is... [more]

MeTa post: The kindness of MeFi.
Relationship filter is never about picking out the one rational response that opens your eyes into what you need to see. It's asking many people to answer all at once, and seeing if an answer emerges from a single voice.

When you're blinded your love for someone else, its hard to get that perspective. You know that other point of view is there, but you can't tell which argument is real and which is your own rationalization.

MeTa post: We have box sets.
I can only shake my head at the selfishness and flexible morality of the slashdot hive mind. Go read the +5 comments.

They overwhelmingly think that because it's legal to take advantage of a checkout error, it's therefore Amazon's fault and if you order 50 free DVD boxed sets, you're all clear. And Amazon will suffer PR damage for asking their customers to actually pay for the things they order. Let's boycott them.

Yeah, sure, slashdot. Let's... [more]
