How much does the spine of a book cover affect sales? My partner has just had a book published, but the publishers put an earlier draft cover design on by mistake. The main difference is on the spine, where the title is slightly wrong and the text placement is different making the title unreadable by anyone browsing the shelves.

Mannekin Pics
A community blog for people to post photos of Brussels, Belgium. We've got a small team and we're looking for more people to join.
For me, flickr groups are a bit impersonal, so by tying that in with Blogger, I hope to add a more personal touch and build a dynamic and diverse view of the city. There are only two rules; The photo must be taken in Brussels or it's environs and some text must accompany the picture.

The US has got used to the political bloggers, but the Uk's Labour party is now accepting applications from bloggers to be an official blogger at their
Annual Conference.
They're offering
access to all the key speeches and events at Conference and you’ll be blogging from the floor about your experiences and 'special access'.
Would a blogger be compromised by this?

Canon 305D: Can anyone recommend a good book how to get the most from this camera?

I really object to people making a FPP which is a link to a neo-nazi site, by claiming it as a 'news' item and secondly without marking the link as a hate site.

i've got to learn php for my work. can anyone recommend a good, not too expensive or obscure, book i can order to help me make a start? I'm in Belgium and there's only one bookshop that sells english language books so I can't go and browse to see what I would like.

Microsoft Access: I might be asked to use Access to get information from a series of online EU databases, merge them and produce a series of reports. I know very little about this, and would have to get up to speec very quickly as the reports are time critical, and if they are not done well, there would be problems for the NGO who have approached me. Could anyone recommend some low cost books or other resources that could help me?

Looking for a Site Counter for an NGO's website. They're prepared to pay. The host can't/won't do counts.
Ideally, it wouldn't involve putting a tracker on every page and we would get a weekly/monthly report as a word or pdf file.

What computer books should I buy? i've been given 250 Euro's of book tokens for Waterstones (large UK chain). As I'm in Brussels, I can't thumb through the shelves, but will have to order them, I would appreciate any ideas.
Primarily I am interested in dreamweaver MX, Photoshop 7.0, PHP, asp and website and network management etc.

quonsar and I: May I point out that I am not quonsar. I don't have any particular beef with him/her, but I am being frequently mistaken for him, and vice versa.
I got my handle from a local tribe when I was living in Tanzania, but mefi is the first place where I have come across a similar handle.

the choice of
dr rowan williams as the new archbishop of canterbury is inspired and his
acceptence speech filled me with hope.
so, i am hoping that the new archbish will bring some sense of moral guidance to the country and remind us of what the church is for. the guardian has an illuminating introduction to the man and his beliefs:
the head of the anglican church in his own words has extracts from his many books.

eu seeks closer ties to iran
This approach has got to be better than calling states 'evil'. This is the same as the US keeping links with China, a less than perfect regime, and one that could be called a sponsor of terrorism.

it's been over a decade since i was in Iran (1992) and the reformers/moderates ahve gained very significant ground since then. The Axis of Evil speech did tremendous harm for moderate Iranians, as it seemed to justify the hardliners stance on the west.

Tanzania 9th most corrupt country
, of course the word here is that they bribed transparency international to place them above kenya.......
according to the director "HIV AIDS is killing millions of Africans, and in many of the countries where AIDS is at its deadliest the problem is compounded by the fact that corruption levels are seen to be very high. While it is imperative that richer countries provide the fruits of medical research at an affordable price to address this human tragedy, it is also essential that corrupt governments do not steal from their own people. This is now an urgent priority if lives are to be saved."
local traditions don't help either. what this story does not say is that 4,000 girls will be circumsised at this ceremony and the govt/police won't interfere.

Bermi Village
- I lived in this small community under Tanzania's Rift Valley for two years. After talks with village leaders, we started to build the site. I'm about to return to the village to develop it further.
There's precious little written by Africans on the net and this seems to be the only site by a rural African community. Have you any thoughts or advice for me?
