When I came across these pages I was reminded of Johnny Got His Gun, the Dalton Trumbo novel/film (more so the latter), and the lines "death has a dignity on its own". The number specified as being patients at Queen's Hospital was 5000 in the facial reconstruction ward, I often wonder what facilities there were in German hospitals.

In reference to JGHG, I expect that perhaps many victims of horrendous facial injuries may have been left to die, or hidden away... [more]

MeFi post: Generalities to General Organization & Museology in 5 seconds
As the son of a librarian, and who spent many many many many days as a child trapped in an academic library, these links are awesome :) But where is the bookcart racing?

MeFi post: Geek Squad Steals Porn?
it's the same porn that everyone downloads anonymously from the Internet.

Porn is sacred didn't you hear?

Although possibly it could been self-porn?

From the video it didn't look he was specificly searching for porn, he just went into the My Pictures folder and a couple on the desktop, one of which was just mp3s), he then went to check them out after copying them, looked like vacation photos, photos of people clubbing, photos of a girl at the beach. So I dont think its the point that he's copying peoples pron which they've downloaded, but their personal photos which is quite creepy actually.

MeFi post: Kiwi politicians lack humor
I want to find out what Ron Mark got for flipping the bird in parliament, I'm guessing he didn't get the week long ban which TV3 got just for publishing it... And had TVNZ (state funded charter-based broadcaster) reported the same thing, would I be presumptuous to think that they would have been treated differently?

MeFi post: HBO: Flight of the Conchords
maybe I have a twisted sense of humor or something, I find a lot of things funny. I find rice funny. This though, I didnt find funny.
I watched a couple of their songs on youtube (racist dragon, and Business time) and they didnt do much for me.

I felt they were milking the "we're from New Zealand, and that makes us all unique and cute" line, with their "we used this song to stop racism in New Zealand, it was really bad before...... [more]

MeFi post: L & P advertisements
Is it still an ad if you cant buy the product in your home country?
I live in NZ and wont be buying L&P any time soon ;-), the taste is just a little too old school. The ads are a great piece of Kiwiana though.

MeFi post: None if by land, two if....oh, it's all so depressing.
I wear tight black jeans and leather jackets, someone drove past me and threw something and yelled "I hope you get run over you emo fuck!". I used to have a mohawk and recently an old friend said to me "hey are you still emo? did you used to have an e-mohawk?".

Emo is facinating though, (from a media studies student point of view...), it's pretty 'post-modern', no one can really define it, not even those who adhere to it. It's origin is completely... [more]
