National Novel Writing Month 2007
I found out about it on October 25, and decided to slap together some ideas and give it a go. It's going roaringly well right now. 36,000 words and counting. I hope that Thanksgiving week doesn't submarine my progress.

I'm doing National Novel Writing Month. That's what got me on this writer's group kick in the first place.

@Terminal Verbosity: Your suggestion is a good one. I will make that a rule for the group. 3 critiques for every submission you make.
@absalom: Do you think we should have something like a bi-monthly writer's prompt? I think that asking people to write 2500 words twice a month isn't too much to ask. Hell, I'm doing 1667 a day on NaNo and that only takes a couple of hours at most.

I could make the themes suggestions for those who are in need of a topic.
I'll make a bi-monthly submission requirement. It should be a good way to get things moving.

Keep the ideas coming. I'll have to take them all into account.
Do you think people might have an issue with their writing being up for anyone to see?

Sorry you feel that way, clavdivs. Most of us are amateurs, and I'm just trying to facilitate people actually writing, instead of just thinking about it.

@Brandon: I like your idea of 2 to 3 stories a month. That definitely makes it easier to keep on top of who needs to get some critiques out.
This will be a change I will consider. I want to leave this thread open through Friday, so I can get as many constructive suggestions as possible. Then, I can get to the business of actually structuring the group in a way that will be useful to everyone.

@typewriter: I'm sorry I didn't respond to your earlier post. As I envision it, the writer's group we have created will be a place where each member can get meaningful critiques that will then help that person improve his/her writing.
I'm not really interested in it being a place for casual posting of stories. I know we'll have some attrition, but hopefully we can keep a solid core of people in the group. I'd ideally like there to be 15-20 dedicated writers in there.... [more]

Is the MeFi Writer's Group still alive?
It's a shame that this effort seems to have died off. Ah well, back to the hinterlands for me.

Perhaps we could get a private Yahoo Group or Google Group with one or two people acting as admins. Perhaps that might work better than a blog.
I'd be willing to be an admin. To me, the main purpose of a writer's group is to get you writing. I'm doing NaNo this year, but until now, I just sat around and thought about writing. A group or deadline actually makes me get up and write.
I think Sparx has some good ideas for a framework for such a group.... [more]

Please accept my apology
I wasn't trying to prank the site at all. Nor did I have substance abuse issues. No, it was the most devious of all problems: getting over a horrible relationship.
I'm sure people can relate that when a SO does you so wrong that you break up and become extremely bitter, you do some crazy and regrettable things.
But, I would like to say it for all: women are beautiful and should be cherished. A few bad apples (or ho's, if you like) shouldn't cause... [more]

Mandy, it's because of the tenor of my original post. If you read the post and the comments it inspired, it ain't pretty.
I don't think my ex is a ho. I was trying to incorporate some of the semi funny responses by dhammond and miss lynster. I guess I should have put a :) to signify my intent. Nor do I need to tell women they're A-OK. It was part of my clumsy apology/explanation. I'm not good at expressing emotions in writing, so perhaps it comes off as ham-handed.... [more]

A thread that reads like a piss-contest between...
Hello all,
I am the one who started the thread. I was actually only asking for song titles. The quoting of choruses was not something that was explicitly asked for in the question.
I apologize for any trouble this has caused, but at the same time, I cannot control people's responses.
