Small mac app idea wanted
Honestly, I haven't checked to see if it's out there but one part of Vista I like is the multiple clocks I get in the task bar. If you click/mouse over (can't remember) the clock in the tray it will pop up with a few different time zones you can set. I would love to have something like this in my regular menu bar instead of a Dashboard widget.

Please tell me about Cincinnati
Wow! So many good responses so fast. Thank you all so much.
Ok, to give some more feedback/history. I'm unmarried (but have a girlfriend that may come with me), 29, no family. So I suppose an area with younger people or stuff to do would be nice, but I'm not much of a bar scene type of person. Good restaurants would be great. I love to eat out and try new food so a nice selection of places to eat would be great, but not key. I mostly cook all my food during the... [more]

After reading all the comments again, let me put a few more things out there. Definitely renting, not buying. What I like about those other neighborhoods was the atmosphere of being able to walk around, go to cafes and bookshops, that kind of thing. I wouldn't put too much emphasis on my working location unless traffic is really terrible in Cincinnati. I would drive every day no matter which area I decide on. Thanks again!

Thank you all for the great info. I think I have a idea of where I want to look. Sounds like I'm going to checkout the Oakley area, but now with all this input I'm definitely going to also checkout the Covington/Newport and Clifton areas. Hopefully I have enough time to walk around and get a good feel for the places. I might have to reconsider after hearing about some tax issues, but I'm sure it'll all work out.
Thanks everyone for your help!

Oh, good morning, Dying Alone! How have you been?
My coworker is a very attractive woman that some pretty bad skin problems too. She has a huge scar on her forearm and shins from a kitchen accident when she was younger. I'm not sure what her exact skin problem is, but it flares up from time to time and she has super dry, itchy red skin. It can be on her arms, legs, face, everywhere. She has also had many boyfriends, and I think she looks great. She always explains it to the guy she is dating and it doesn't seem to be a problem. I've... [more]

Is there any way to surf Japanese web pages on a US cell phone?
I've tried looking, but I couldn't find anything. Unless you're really into your phone, you may just want to consider getting a different one. You can find quite a few unlocked Japanese Nokia phones on Yahoo Auction. Or a Windows Mobile phone.

buying a car from an individual with my bank in another state, protecting him and me
I sold my car in MI a few months back and I was in a somewhat similar situation as your seller. I didn't have enough money to pay off the total loan even with what the buyer was giving me. I had to come up with the balance because if the seller does not pay of his lien, he can't give you title. If he can't give you the title, that car ain't yours. Make sure he pays off the lien, or you'll be driving "his" car.

What synecdoche said. I remember reading the same thing. Also, I read that the further your foot goes in front of your knee (if you think of a vertical line through your knee) the greater the chance of injury. I may be wrong on that one.

How do you use Facebook
I'm slowly getting more into FB and what I find it's good for is keeping track of two types of friends. My really good friends that I want to communicate with all the time. Why not use email or the phone? I'm overseas, and we're not the type of guys that mail each other every day. Before we all starting using FB we might have written a nice long email every few weeks but now we send each other little messages almost daily. The status thing is also a quick way to see what my buddies are up... [more]

I eat most of my food at my desk and rarely go out. I imagine sometimes my food smells might bother other people. However, I have to regularly deal with people reheating grilled fish that smells awful (live in Japan) all the time so I don't feel bad when they need to deal with my food. I don't think oatmeal is the right food to pick a fight over, especially because you may be opening yourself up to revenge.

Does learning a second language diminish your skills in your mother tongue?
I've been speaking about 50% Japanese 50% English daily for the last 7 years. I have a hard time always getting words/phrases correct when I go home. It seems that when I'm at home with friends and family and speaking faster than I normally would, my brain doesn't keep up. Also, people ask me (when at home in Detroit) where I'm from because I have an interesting accent. Weird.

The shortest I worked was 4 months as a LAN engineer. It was somewhat like what they described in the interview, but they changed the salary details at the last minute. It was excruciating going to work every day and I jumped at the first interview I had, even though I had to move out of the country. Not a big deal except that I moved home from overseas just a few months before.

self-forgiveness
I'm not a scholar, and I don't even pretend to be a good Catholic, but one thing the priest has said to me in confession is to forgive myself. I find this to be the hardest part. I think that people have a hard time forgiving themselves and others, and it's difficult for us to imagine a being that would love us unconditionally no matter what we do. However, I think it is important to not forget the bad things you did but try to forgive yourself. Otherwise it is hard to move on. As for me, I... [more]

Help me get my money out of Japanese bank account from Canada
I use UFJ Mitsubishi as my main account here (Japan). I regularly wire money back home to my back account via their phone service. For me, it's easier because I have registered all the bank info at home with UFJ but during the automated part of the call I know there is an option for unregistered overseas wired transfer. However, I'm not sure if this is only accessible to people who are registered for their Internet banking service.

I have done many half and full marathons, and not all of them in the best condition. I have bailed on a few. Even when I hurt, I want to get out there and run but it always helps to remind myself that I would rather take a day off (or skip the event) and live to run another day then possibly injure myself and take myself out of competition for a longer period of time.

How do they do it?
I think it's more like everything on Japanese TV is fake.
Then again, my Taekwondo teacher once broke his wrist attempting to break a brick at a competition. He was just part of a demonstration, but would not give up. The brick (typical cinder block) was setup on the spongy pads that made up the ring and that was probably giving too much to get a good break. That didn't stop him from hitting it over and over, until I finally saw his wrist snap. Crazy.

When I moved from the US to Japan, I used a professional moving company. However, I was still scared about my PC so I did the following:
1) Backed up everything important on DVD (that could fit on DVD) and mailed it to my parents ahead of time.
2) Used Acronis to image my drive to an external which went in my backpack carry on.

Keeping patients in the dark in Japan?
When I had a stomach ulcer, I had to call over and over and basically make life hell for my doctor before he told me what was wrong with me. This was at a small clinic in Tokyo.
When I had a tumor in my neck I went to a much larger hospital (Hiroo Metropolitan) and the doctors there never held anything back. Even though it takes all day to get through the lines there, I will never go anywhere else as long as I live here.

Decent bike for ~$300?
I was a mechanic at a bike shop for a few years. I fixed many dept. store bikes after the owner crashed because something came loose. The people that put those things together don't do it right most of the time. It's worth the extra cash to know you're not going to be injured the first time you take it out, plus the free tuneup you'll need after a month or so. Even a cheap LBS bike is going to last a long time if you take good care of it.

Desperate to set up an effective weight loss strategy
A lot of times, weight gain is a terrible cycle. You gain weight and get depressed so you eat, or something happens and you eat, rinse and repeat. Making a new cycle of exercise and losing weight will help keep your confidence up. It's going to be tough but if you're really heavy now the weight will really come off fast at first, and that can help get you through those first few months.

If you can get the weekly Shonen Magazine in a Asian supermarket/bookstore near you, all the manga have furigana over the kanji. Also, I believe all (or a majority) of the Shonen brand manga have furigana. That's how I practiced. Personally, I don't like Doraemon. I really enjoy Hajime no Ippo. Tips on managing 20-somethings
I'm 28 and now managing people my age or a bit older. One thing I really took away from my previous managers, and am trying to pass along, is how to take a few extra minutes and think about the proper way to solve a problem. Not just go with the first, and fastest option but to think about the possible future outcomes. I know when I was 22 and starting to work, I always wanted to impress with my speed and being fast didn't always make me very productive in the long term.
