I once read a book that described a man who predicted the existence of the internet thirty years before its time. He anticipated "a web of information that you can dip in and out of" -- that's the closest to the original quote I can muster. If I'm recall correctly, he was a writer or academic or McLuhan-era media pundit, most likely American. It might also have been a character in a sci-fi book. Can anyone identify the source?

I developed a really intricate, feature-packed free blog theme, but despite many requests, don't have time to do paid customizations for users. However, I've got a very qualified acquaintance who can handle the spillover work. How much should I get for sending the referrals?

Would it be hard to enable AskMe's tagging system with a bit of AJAX so existing tags are pulled from the database as you type them -- kind of an "auto-recommend" feature -- in order to prevent redundancy?

I have a slow leak in a brand new Diadora soccer ball purchased online. Every week or so it becomes too soft to kick and must be pumped up again. Is there a way to home-remedy this, or should I ask for my money back?

Because the bottom of my fiberglass shower is totally flat, the water doesn't drain down and so mildew builds up at triple the frequency. Short of replacing the shower, how can I create the effect of a downsloping shower floor?

Lately I've been reading a series of books on the 'digital divide' between certain world cultures. I'd like to do my share of narrowing the gap, but I'm not sure what route to take. Does anyone have experience going abroad to teach basic internet and computer applications, OR has anyone stayed in their native country and taught recent immigrants? What was your experience like?

Has anyone ever considered a MeFi service akin to
HouseExchange where members can meet and swap homes for periods of time? This would be especially convenient for folks who can work remotely and who want to live abroad for periods of time.
