How can I make my thesis look beautiful?
Agreed, re: checking beforehand on formatting limitations.
If there aren't that many, consider breaking up the big block paragraphs into shorter chunks and using formatting like bolding, italics, blockquotes, horizontal rules, lists and so on. In other words, appealing to the modern problem of Short Attention Spans and people who scan but don't really read. I realize these issues are treated as a web phenomenon, but in this day and age, it seems... [more]

Why won't my Macbook recognize my Canon S3 IS as a device?
Thanks so much guys - I was not familiar with the Image Capture Utility, but sure enough I opened it and it found the camera! It has not been easy in a foreign country by myself, attempting to figure out Mac stuff on the fly for the first time. I appreciate all the input.

Foreigner wonders what others think of him
What do you think of a person when you find out that they are foreigners.
My feeling is always: "Cool, I want to talk to this person more about their home country and culture". If they speak broken English, I enunciate more to lessen my own Southern accent, but not in a condescending way. English is a kooky and inconsistent language and I definitely can't judge anyone for not mastering it.
Also where I come from... [more]

Who has succeeded most in bringing people together?
Are you distinguishing between 'united by diplomacy/inspiration/etc" and "united by fear/power"? Because, like, even Saddam did a pretty decent job at uniting Iraq's disparate cultures, although it was through brutal rule and retribution.
Sorry, I should have specified -- I'm seeking people/concepts which have brought together a patchwork of people under unlikely circumstances for positive purposes, not to mobilize them for... [more]

How should I divide profits for creating/customizing a blog theme with another designer?
If you want more than that, I'd expect you to contribute more to the relationship than a simple "this guy can help you."
I contributed the entire groundwork of the theme, which is usually 80% of the final product.
Why go the route of referrals? Why don't you contract it out?
I'm too busy to choose a contractor each time. I want to pick one comptent person, give him all... [more]

Hmmm. I'm not "misunderstanding on purpose" nor would I know how to go about doing that. And I'm certainly not looking to "con" someone -- I don't think these are fair ways to portray it. If I was going to con someone, I wouldn't be asking questions about what's fair.
I've never attempted this kind of arrangement so I'm asking questions as to how it's commonly done. If 10-20% for referral seems more than enough, that's all I need to know.

psychological impacts of war on the individual and society
Read up on Audie Murphy -- not only the most decorated soldier of WWII, he also suffered from PTSD and then led the way in getting the US government to acknowledge it and offer treatment for it to returning soldiers from WWII to Korea to Vietnam. Murphy did a lot of for giving the syndrome a name and making it easier for soldiers to not feel ashamed or isolated for what they go through.

Best online resource for soccer/football to keep up with Premier matches, goals and highlights, plus video?
Thanks guys, checking out UEFA's pay-per-game subscription now, although like SopCast, I never have time to watch whole games.
but these matches are sold around the world for millions of pounds - you won't legally see them being put online for your convenience free of charge.
See, the Premier League wants to screw as much money out of international rights as possible, which means you're just not going to get good stuff for free.... [more]

Are there still rock groupies?
In my town, few mediocre indie bands can leave town after a show without being set upon by hipster skanks from all angles, offering them a couch to stay on ifyouknowwhatimean. I don't think orgies necessarily commence like they did in the days of Led Zeppelin or even Motley Crue, but I've definitely witnessed girls pulling musicians into the bathroom for whatever can be accomplished in the confines of a stall. Maybe small indie bands are easier targets because there's rarely a cordoned... [more]

Best 9-11 'Conspiracy' Book?
-I am aware of so many holes in the 'official conspiracy theory'/9-11 commission report
-the impossibility of the official story
Can you clarify? It sounds like you're saying both the 'official story' (18 Muslim hijackers) and subsequent 'conspiracy theories' (Bush/Jewz did it) are both impossible and full of holes.

"The 'official conspiracy theory' is that 'Al Qaeda' conspired to send 19 sleeper agents to the US, who were then able to evade US intelligence agencies while training as pilots, defeat the US air defenses, and fly hijacked aircraft into buildings, completely demolishing several."
Well, there exists fairly hard evidence that all of that, in fact, happened, minus a few subtleties. So are you looking for books that disprove... [more]

Where do I start to make a website?
If you're interested in setting up something like what you describe but you don't actually want to learn programming just yet, you can re-purpose Wordpress for all kinds of things. It already has a built-in search, categories, image upload, and you can always re-purpose the blog Post function to store your images, thus displaying all your posts by category would give you a thumbnail gallery. It'd be a good flexible framework to start with if you're also learning PHP and MySQL.... [more]

I hate working
Start your own company. Hire a small team of creatives who you can trust, and otherwise structure your own time in a way that maximizes your abilities and won't bring you boredom. Think of the bigger picture.
Easier said than done, I realize, but plenty have done it, especially in the last decade.

What DJWeezy said. With WP there are multiple levels of security so some can be Admins, others just Authors. I believe with the newest version you can also sort by Author if you wanted to read all his/her posts.

Dry eyes while sleeping
1) humidifier at night
2) drinking flax seed oil in some context in the late evening
3) sticking with the Restasis going to bed, and again in the morning
4) drinking antioxidants throughout the day like green tea or rooibos tea
5) trying Genteal overnight eye gel once a week
6) Try punctual plugs as lunaguna suggested; there are different sizes, make sure to get a size that is not too small

The first question you should be asking is why you need XHTML - if you don't have a specific reason (the need for XML parsers to be able to consume your pages) you're much better off with HTML 4.01

Please help me get rid of this stupid scar!
Since I can't see your scar, I don't know if this applies, but...
Two weeks ago I was exiting our office bathroom when someone opened the door as I was pulling it -- the door struck my forehead, bruising it and taking off a layer of skin. I was bummed, knowing I had to visit my Dad and stepmom for Memorial Day with a scabby scar on my head.
But my stepmom's a Navy physician who's been in Iraq, Indonesia (Tsunami) and elsewhere and treated a lot... [more]

When is it time to call it a day on looking for a husband?
Fifty years ago things might have been judged differently, but in this day and age 31 is not at all too young to continue enjoying/exploring life before settling down with a permanent match.
Note: I can only say this from a Western, first-world societal perspective. Different cultures emphasize different lifestyles, if that sort of thing is a factor.

Help me find the right Flickr plugin for Wordpress.
creates a default page comprised of thumbnails of the last 20 images I've uploaded to Flickr
I should also (somewhat redundantly) note that the pagination should go back deeper in the archives as determined by the date of the photo. Again, simplicity is best.

Unfortunately FAlbum simply quit working after a few days. I googled it thinking I'd done something wrong but turns out lots had had the same experience. I'll try to find the names of the other plugins I tried, I've since deleted them. Basically, I'd love any plugin that didn't default to a photoset listing but a simple descending order of thumbnails, plus pagination.
