The Williamsburg Avenger
This story is like the perfect storm of everything I try mightily to avoid: Williamsburg, Herpes, Hipsters, Gawker, and Insane People who Put Up Flyers for Revenge. And yet, here I am.

I think this was mentioned sometime during the Gawker shitshow, but: you can contract herpes and not know you have it for a very long time.
My friend's mother was fiftysomething and on her third husband. One day she want to the doctor for something resembling a pimple around the taint. Turns out it was herpes she'd contracted sexually in her teens; it had just been dormant all those years. So without Drew's side of the story, we may never know what's what.... [more]

John Young of Cryptome: The man behind the world's most dangerous website
It surprises me that a link leading to a lightweight such as radaronline has been on the FP of MeFi more than once in the past 30 days.
I bought a copy of Radar at the airport yesterday before my flight home from vacation. Prior to the Cryptome article, I wasn't all that familiar with the mag. After reading it, I thought MeFites would be interested -- sure enough, Radar online offered it, so I linked it. Man, are all posts subject to... [more]

Oy, just searched MeTa -- I guess some things happened while I was vacationing. I might've reconsidered posting if I'd known Radar had been self-linking prior.

Conspiracy pr0n
As with all matters, I'm gonna need confirmation from one or more of the Baldwin Brothers or at least one Sheen before passing judgment on this documentary.

Fingerboard!
Cool!
In 7th grade we used to take cardboard and make tiny little decks, use sandpaper for grip tape, glue on a pencil eraser as "trucks" and stick a set of Matchbox wheels through the rubber. We started fingerboarding in class after we saw Lance Mountain do it in Future Primitive.

One, two, three, four, five, six....
So much sophisticated integrated technology at our fingertips, the sort of machines and networks people would have stepped over each other to possess a mere fifty years ago....and this is what we're doing with it.

Fight Knight
'Sir' title sought for bin Laden to avenge Rushdie knighthood
A hard-line Pakistani parliamentarian and head of a religious political party on Wednesday demanded a "sir" title for Osama bin Laden, the lead of the al-Qaeda terrorist network, in retaliation for Britain knighting author Salman Rushdie. "Muslims should confer the 'sir' title and all other awards on bin Laden and Mullah Omar in reply to Britain's shameful decision to knight Rushdie,... [more]

Heather and Derek are suddenly out of JPG Magazine
I remember when the mag was first announced and thinking it was smaller than it was, then more recently seeing it in art stores and chains like Barnes and Noble. This might have ended badly, but I'm still impressed with what they accomplished in a short time.

Fauxto: web-based Photoshop
Understood that GIMP qualifies as a Photoshop alternative, but it's not web-based and it too has a long ways to go. Fauxto is in its infant stages, but I still I thought it was neat to see what folks are doing right now in the realm of a "web-based Photoshop" as it has seemed like an inevitability for years. Someone will no doubt improve on Fauxto in just the next 12 months. A more "portable" way to edit images is what a lot of folks look for, especially if your job requires... [more]
