There's just no way you can take a reasonable amount of time to craft a well-rounded obit post about a major celebrity, and not miss the boat.
You could do what the newspapers and networks do: make them in advance for every famous person, so it's ready just in case.

I didn't think either of those (or for that matter the fictional-team-names Q) were chatfilter because all of the questions were clearly trying to build a discrete list, and asking for help populating it.
They were not "what do you all think" or "tell me about your experiences" questions, even if some answerers could not resist anecdote instead of answer. Not the questioners fault!

As someone who completely missed the entire Armen Asl / eBay saga the first TWO times around (how could I be such a bad MeFi servant?), I really appreciated the window-in that fourcheesemac just supplied.
In fact, thanks to this AskMe (last night's) I just spent an hour of my life re-reading the old but new-to-me Armen MeFi drama from two years ago. If this latest AskMe had been flagged and killed too quickly last night, I'd have missed out on so much... [more]

Posting the name did seem like bad form, even though it's in the profile. As the guy himself so inelegantly responded, the handle and date joined would have made the point better, without getting all SomethingAwful in the middle.
