berry berry delicious
Cook's Illustrated doesn't freely share their recipes, so that one will have to remain a mystery.
The rookie chef, my 9 yr old neighbor, has decided on Paula Deen's Peach Cobbler compliments of Cool Papa Bell, the 5-Minute Blueberry Pie suggested by spamguy, and the Double Blueberry Muffins brought by ellenaim. We have some homegrown peaches that were canned last year so I have very high hopes for the cobbler.

YANMD, I get it.
Yeah, it sucks. You'll elevate your foot, and then when it goes numb you lower it for a while, and then when it throbs you raise it again for a while. Ice packs help a lot with the swelling and throbbing. Good luck, hope you heal quickly.

Turkey, Bulls and Frank Gehry
I thought Bilbao was lovely and well worth a couple of days at least. The Silken Hotel across the street from the Guggenheim is a work of art itself and wonderfully pampering. I highly, highly recommend it.
When we were there the bus drivers were on strike so we did not get to visit the Altamira Cave. That looks like a great daytrip. You can't go into the cave itself anymore but the replica is said to be very well done.... [more]

What has the internet actually replaced?
In the early and mid 1990s my mom served on the board of a non-profit that helped patients and their families find the latest, most complete information on whatever medical condition they faced. WebMD eliminated the need for the entire organization.

(By "helped the patients and their families find" I mean the patient asked for information and the staff researched the question, found the best resources, printed and bound the pages, and handed the patient one or more 3" thick 3-ring binders. Then sat down with them and helped them wade through it. A search could cost several thousands of dollars. Patients were asked to pay what they could on a sliding scale and the board was charged with raising the rest of the money through... [more]

Well, HEAL was categorically, completely and in toto shut down immediately after WebMD was launched, and the board cheered WebMD for making all this information freely available to all.

Need help charging my mobile phone
If you are staying in a hotel, ask housekeeping or the front desk if they have any chargers in their lost & found. A Westin in LA brought out a box of left behind and unclaimed chargers and let me take my pick.

Help me keep my hot water heater from exploding
A 15 year old water heater is at the end of its expected lifespan. You might consider just replacing it before it dumps many, many gallons of free-flowing city water into your daughter's bedroom. I don't think it's going to explode but I do think the tank is going to disintegrate when you start messing with it.

God loves a terrier, but what's that thing he's wearing?
Tags aren't allowed in AKC show rings. The judge saw it and didn't question it, so it isn't a tag.

As far as I could tell, this was the only dog wearing it.

The only identification allowed in the ring is the handler's armband. That's supposed to keep politics and favoritism out of the arena.
Shoggoth might be on to something. I wonder if there's padding on the inside that we can't see.

Bird course, please.
You have to thaw it before you can do anything else, so get started on that with a sink full of cold water and the bird still in its plastic (assuming it is wrapped). It will take a few hours so others will have time to provide you with the recipes you desire.

smoke on the mattress
Sunshine is nature's deodorant. Drag it out into the yard for several hours the next time you have a bright sunny day.
Smoke stink is sticky and tenacious. Is this just the best mattress ever or something?

Motion sickness relief wristbands any good?
The pilots in my family always carry several of them in the planes, and strap them on passengers at the first hint of greenness. For some it works, for some it's too annoying to keep on properly, and for some it doesn't do much at all, but it's always worth trying if it can keep your plane from smelling like puke.

Where to find a Falstaff-sized buck basket?
Could the basket ride on a wheeled handcart of some kind?

I'm sorry, now I see you already thought of that. I win the RTFQ Award this morning.
How about a 4 wheeled cart topped by a basic wicker laundry basket (that the actor can step into) and a lot of white sheets. And maybe one pair of white boxers with big red hearts.
