Ask post: Are nipple piercings attractive on straight men?
i prefer barbells to rings. i do think they best suit men who have other piercings, stretched ears, or tattoos. but seriously, do whatever you think is hot, because what's really attractive is someone who's made some decisions.

Ask post: This one goes to eleven.
i'm not a very loud talker, but i am a very fast talker. i can't hear it, though, when i'm talking fast. it sounds *exactly* the same speed as everyone else is talking. but if i hear a recording, i cringe at the fastness. and people have made fun of me for it my whole life, which sucks. i was always told i spoke too fast, but i could never tell if i actually was, or what it sounded like when i did.

so, seconding the previous answer, can you record her to give her... [more]

Ask post: NotOKCupid
My friend just married a lovely man she met on Craigslist. Casual encounters, no less. So it can happen. I posted an ad for another female friend a few weeks ago. That ad got about 50 responses the first night. I looked at them all- none seemed to be spam, and only 2 were peener photos. My friend responded to only 3 guys of that 50- not because all of the other 48 were unacceptable (there were at least 15 guys in the bunch who were cute and articulate enough to merit a date), but because... PS, I am currently in a loving and committed relationship with a guy I met on an online dating site. In fact, this week is the 3-year anniversary of our first date. So yeah, yaaay online dating! Just remember, in real life you probably meet 100 people you don't like for every one person you do like. So a ratio of say, 20 dud dates to one awesome person is still a better ratio than real life.

Ask post: I have anxiety at dinnertime.
in response to some previous suggestions, i don't think you should ever use a cat's name when the cat is being bad. it teaches her that her name can be connected to negative responses, which makes the cat less likely to come when you say her name. i try to only say my cat's name when i'm feeding or playing with or stroking him, so in his tiny, furry brain, his name is tied only to pleasant memories. seems to work- when i call my cat, he *sprints* over.

when the cat is... [more]

Ask post: Current state of US train travel?
i took the amtrak between toronto & penn station NYC a few times last year; i found it very pleasant. it's clean and calm, and amtrak trains have plugs so you can charge a laptop (although no wifi). the washrooms on board the trains are quite clean, and have running water.

on the train, i think the snack car is the best place to sit- it's very airy and bright. i usually take over one of the 6 tables in that car for pretty much the whole ride, rather than sit in... [more]

is it possible you're getting heat output from incandescent light bulbs? you may get some results from switching to fluorescent light bulbs- sounds like a minor change, but it made a big difference in my apartment.

also, be sure to keep all window coverings closed all day, even on non-south facing windows- and use light-coloured window coverings, as dark colours will absorb heat.

OP, i worry for your wallet. i don't necessarily smell a con- for one thing, the pics probably do exist, as the woman can easily show the OP the photos (probably already has). and i buy that this person might have a lapse in judgement, take the shots, then want the pics taken off the net. that scenario is way more plausible to me than the idea that she's running some sort of boyfriend-as-photographer ruse, which is way too elaborate and takes way too long.... Ask post: Where does the lady sit if the wall has a nice view?
i thought the man-faces-wall rule was developed by men who realized that if they faced the room, their hunter/lecher eyes would dart all over the place, attracted by movement in the rest of the room, or possibly by other women-- both of which might annoy the woman he's dining with.

i guess if you decide to let gender/chivalry rules apply at all, the polite & traditional thing would be to stand back & give the lady first pick.

when you do get into a relationship, obviously, tell your partner the truth (that you're a virgin), and ask her to be discreet about the fact that they are your first.
