Many DVD players are, of course, multi-region.
It's not the region code that's the major problem, UK DVDs are PAL formatted, while US players are NTSC. But like you said you can avoid both problems watching the DVDs on a computer.

Can you name this painting?
It says on the back cover that the painting is by John Collier, but I haven't been able to find it in any of the online catalogs.

Should I worry about these thousands of bug bites?
It's probably from a sand flea (lots of them on Galveston beaches), and if so West Nile isn’t an issue (but I have heard them connected to Hantavirus.) You shouldn’t scar unless you scratch the bites. With that many bites I would probably make an appointment with my doctor to get his opinion, but he’d probably just recommend a dose of benadryl and no scratching.

help me remove one thousand layers of paint?
I would try and clean off the loose paint with the spray nozzle on a garden hose (a pressure washer would be better) and the go over the bench with a hand held wire brush (a wire brush on an angle grinder would be better) After that you can decide weather you want to give it another shot of paint stripper to get the remaining paint or start adding new coats.

How young is too young
I’ve been on both sides of this.
When I was 15 I dated a 19 year old. She was a Mormon and in our third week of dating she decided that we should get engaged. I was in no way ready for that, being happy just to be fooling around with someone regularly ran for the hills.
When I was 21 I dated a 16 year old girl. She turned 17 about a week into the relationship. She was smart, mature, strong willed and our personalities meshed well together. None of our... [more]

How to give wood a metalic affect?
The biggest problem is the porous nature of the wood. To get it looking its best I would start out by sanding the wood with various grades of sandpaper (150 to 400grit) until it’s nice and smooth. Then paint the blade with a coat of primer; Krylon gray works well. Sand the primer with 400grit until you have a nice smooth surface. If after sanding there is any wood showing repeat this step until you have an even finish. Now paint the blade with a couple of coats of your preferred metallic paint... [more]

Sculpting with the dental acrylic is pretty easy – especially if you have something like a Dremel. Cover your plaster cast with Alcote to keep the acrylic from sticking to the plaster. Mix up a small blob of the acrylic and push it onto one of the teeth of the cast (using rubber gloves!) and shape it into a slightly larger version of the shape you want for the prosthetic tooth. After it cures you can use sanding and polishing wheels in the Dremel to refine and polish the tooth. Once it’s done... [more]

"The rags-to-riches-to-rags story of Troy Duffy, a blue collar Boston twenty something that struck a dream movie deal with Miramax in 1997 to direct the $15 million project "Boondock Saints" from his own script. It was a deal that received worldwide attention. But when Miramax jumped ship and put the film in turnaround, Duffy's overnight success soon starts to crash and burn."

DVD Security Sticker Stickiness
I got something similar to what cypill uses from the now defunct dvdexpress.com as a freebie when I was buying piles of DVDs from them with their preorder discount. Works great, especially on those annoying stickers Fred Meyers adds to their DVDs.

Just anecdotal, but the way my dog sulks* every time I pull out my suitcase and start packing tells me there is more than instinct driving their behavior.

Fountain Pen Help
Recommendations would really depend on your price range. World Lux (No affiliation) has a good selection in just about every price range. For $65 I picked up a Sensa Meridian with a fine nib. It survived daily use for two years and still works great. I've also picked up a few higher end fountain pens from them but they stay home on my writing desk.... [more]

If he’s at all interested in keeping it he needs to get some training in handling it. If he would rather have the money his best bet would be to find a nearby dealer and see if they will sell it on consignment for him.
