Police raid mayor's house, shoot dogs, recommend land war in Asia.
I don't think cops usually roll into rich neighborhoods to arrest locally well-known political figures over something fairly minor like pot.
Well it was about $150,000 worth of pot.

Around here that's about $1,981,000 worth of marijuana.

Bad medicine
What exactly does this have to do with plants grown in California, sold in California, and consumed in California?
Because by doing that you're not buying marijuana from a drug dealer whose product frequently imported from out of state, thus interfering with (illegal) interstate commerce.

Why did he focus on a bike that only uses steam for aesthetics when there are actual steampowered ones out there?
Yeah, I like Steampunk stuff but it kind of annoys me that he calls it a "Steam Electric Hybrid Motorcycle." he should either hook a piston up to an alternator, add a mini steam turbine to charge up the battery or change the name.
This is a steam powered... [more]

Joss Whedon Talks 'Dr. Horrible,' 'Dollhouse' and More
Arlington, Va.: Does The Tick live near Dr. Horrible? Moist totally gives it away.
Joss Whedon: The Tick lives IN Dr. Horrible. Ben Edlund was going to do the piece with us but had to drop out. "Bad Horse" was a character he'd pitched incessantly on "Angel" ("How could he make a radioactive device using only HOOVES?!?!?!?") so I wanted that in, and the first thing Ben pitched... [more]

SciFi channel's movies are almost always single-word imperative exclamations, or portmanteaus like: Swarmed! or Volcanosaur! or Meteorsaurusswarm!.
That's because Sci-Fi has very specific rules for their filmmakers.
The name of the monster must be in the title,
The creature must appear in the first 15 min. of the movie,
there must be a death every 8 minutes.

Is anybody really sure when this actually happened? In the LA times story Xeni says "a year and a half ago when I unpublished this stuff" but she was still apparently linking to VB as late as last May. Did she have a second deletion tantrum at a later date?

Recently I’ve been doing a lot of lost wax casting. Someday I’d love to get an MRI of my head, use the data to build a 3D model of my skull then use that to make a wax model on a rapid prototyping machine. Then I could cast it in silver or bronze and have my skull in metal on my desk.

It was called "the dump" because the lot was full of construction debris, concrete blocks, plywood sheets, 2x4’s, old culverts, steel roofing and the... [more]

The difference between theft and copyright infringement,
Here in Washington, getting caught stealing a DVD would be a gross misdemeanor and subject to a fine of not more than $5000 or imprisonment for not more than 90 days or both.
Getting caught downloading a DVD iso via bittorrent would be a felony subject to a fine of not more than $250,000 or imprisonment for not more than 5 years or both.

Who would win in a fight, a minotaur with a trident or a centaur with a crossbow?
Close combat will just not work for the centaur. The minotaur would be far better at circling. The horse-legged centaur wouldn't be able to turn as quickly as the minotaur could circle, and as the centaur's rotation lagged, its horse-shoulder would be exposed to trident attack.
When I first saw this question it reminded me of this video. Horses can be pretty agile.

Well that's per person per day and you're only allowed to serve samples a half an ounce at a time. There were no such restrictions on the samples when I was traveling around the Black Forest visiting home distillers. They'd take us to their sample room, usually the basement, pull out the bottles and keep pouring until they were sure we'd sampled everything thoroughly. We'd buy a few bottles and head on to...
