Those Wacky Swiss
I seriously abuse the alcohol hand cleaner stuff...
You know that just rubbing your hands under running water (without soap, even) is every bit as effective as that skin drying stuff?

Houston did a cow parade back in 01. It's every city's city council rite of passage to green light some kind of standardized template livestock art distributed around the metropolitan area.

Fungi are weird
This particular Cladosporium species likes to grow on rotting building materials.
Which can't help but evoke images of mold covered continents post nuclear exchange. Yikes.

The Mayan World
Well, I saw the new Indiana Jones movie last night, so I know that the Mayans are descended from space aliens.
Sorry for any derailment, but did I miss something about that movie (I did watch a vid capture online because I don't like going to the movie theaters) or did they have Mayans in Peru? Because I'm no expert, but I don't think the Maya made it that far south into Inca country.

Cops on Segways
They should trade with the wooden bikes kids on the bottom half of that page. Also, a Segway would be a nice smooth moving platform to shoot from.

The weird thing is, as he goes he keeps scanning a bar code by each restaurant.
It's probably tracking him to make sure he's patrolling. That's fairly common.

No one has too much money unless they can pay cash for a squadron of F-22s for personal use.

Lifestyles of the Rich and Flavorless.
Um, didn't the woman who accused Tyson of raping her have a history of making these allegations against men she consensually slept with? I still don't believe her story; a guy that rich could buy hookers by the dozen at that time in his life.
Bitches, right? Man, that's probably one of the worst comments I've read on this site all month.

It kind of surprises me that otherwise intelligent people like Oasis. Come on, even their first album was dreck. Give me supersonic, give me gin and tonic? I loved most of the Creation catalog and shoegazing/led zepplin mashups that came out of it, but let's just admit that Oasis were heels.

This has the possibility to create problems on the job. Say someone gets deluged with a lot of these emails and then asks IT and or HR to investigate. It wouldn't be hard to check the logs which user was visiting nicecritic.com and then their little joke wouldn't be so anonymous.
But mainly, I'm surprised at myself for not suspecting that this is probably an email address harvester. Being a systems admin, I hate spam and spammers so I don't want to enable this kind... [more]

Starbucks remains a good place to visit if one is on the road and needs a (usually) clean place in which to poop. The rest of the argument about the coffee and the corporate stuff is immaterial.

2or3whiskeysodas: Yep, that's one of the dyads out there. There's also one in a Randalls across from a standalone on Memorial at Dairy Ashford. I'm think that I've seen a third Starbucks Binary System in the Houston area but where exactly it might be escapes me. Perhaps it was a bad dream.

1. The opening of a Starbucks usually means the closing of whatever independent coffee shop was in the area. Independent shops are also usually owned by a local, which keeps more of the community's money in the community.
This statement gets thrown about a lot but is there actually any real evidence of this? I've seen plenty of indie coffee shops come and go that had no Starbucks in the vicinity. Mostly, it was poor management or the owners got... [more]

I think Bush has said multiple times that he wants Guantanamo to be shut down.
True, but I can't help but suspecting that it's simply because Gitmo is so exposed. There are plenty of other facilities that could be used to detain "enemies" that aren't so highly publicized.
