Its a decent operating system and if you get it free with your Dell then whats the problem? As the study shows the vast majority of people wont know better.

I got Vista "free" with my Dell last year and my computer barely functioned. Like freezing when I hit the Start menu. Like crashing when I tried to open the control panel. It took forever to do anything.
So now I resent... [more]

"I like to see black words on white paper rolling up in front of my gaze."
I started using typewriters in college to pre-draft stories. My first was a beast of a Smith-Corona office model. My prize was/is a Smith Corona Electra that writes in cursive. I picked that one up for $15. But, in the last year and a half, I've lived in four different cities in two countries, so if it couldn't fit in a backpack or suitcase, I don't have it with me here in the Seattle area. Maybe someday I'll get it back, along with my Laserdisc collection.... [more]

Take my arm, my love
I only just realized (within the last few days) that I don't have to keep referring to my boyfriend as my "roommate" around my co-workers, because, as I told one of them, "people don't suck here." But I would never say the same to the Bellevue, WA people who come in to my work. I'm sure it's silly, but I don't trust rich folk to like or care for me. At any rate, it's none of their business.
On a side note, we had an apartment in Beloit, WI about a... [more]

I see there's a lot of dislike towards Twenty20 here, but a lot of people here have said that it's good to bring new people in. I totally agree. As someone who grew up in a strong baseball town, St. Louis, Five Day Tests are completely alien. But, by getting into Twenty20, I can start to see how you could stretch a match over a day. And if I can make that leap, five day tests aren't far behind. Watching Lagan in college didn't hurt, either.
I find Twenty20 fast... [more]

Avenger: I've heard that Stewart's one man A Christmas Carol is a wonder to behold, that he reads the story the right way, where Scrooge is not the villain, but the hero. I have yet to give it a listen, but I have no doubt it's brilliant.

One of the things I liked about being at student at Beloit College was the intramural Ultimate league. The students tended to take it more seriously than the football or basketball programs, and the league finals were held at midnight on the last day of exams, in the stadium. The finals were always better attended than any football game. There were legacy teams, with histories that spanned a decade or more, and a team of professors with surprising finesse.

I'm not native to the area, so I had expectations about the city and surrounding areas that may have been unfounded. For whatever reason, I didn't expect there to be so few black people on the Eastside, or in general. I understand the it's the Eastside, that it's rich, snobby people, but still. I had so much hope for the... [more]

Wow, talk about selection bias. That top 10 has nothing to do with either quality or popularity, and everything to do with furry obsession.

Funny you should mention that. If I remember correctly, Belfry has been around for many years, if not a decade, and back in 1998 when I first found it, it was strictly furry comics -- the logo is at least that old. The 'bias' you speak of may come... [more]

vorfeed, I think I misunderstood your tone. Sorry about that. The word 'obsession' threw me. I think you're confused, though, about the list itself. I agree with you that none of the top ten are really mainstream. The top ten is according to their audience, not the mainstream. Hell, even with webcomics alone, who could even compete with the numbers that Penny Arcade, Sluggy Freelance, or Megatokyo bring in? Within the furry genre, Better Days, Sabrina, Freefall, VGCats, and Ozy &... [more]
