Ask post: I need to offer a 2MB file for download but can't afford bandwidth
Rapidshare only provides bandwidth, not content. The users who upload to rapidshare determine what content is found there. Rapidshare is perfectly fine..

How much are you expecting unaffordable to cost?

Ask post: Drumline music?
I think a keyword you're missing in your searches is cadence.

Do a search for university cadence mp3 and see what you get. Many university/edu band webpages offer mp3s of their drumline free for the taking. My current favorite is U.Maryland's 1995 version of "Truck" especially because of the rest of the band doing yell-calls, what we used to do in high school a lot with our 250-piece. We never realized how awesome calls were until we went to state marching... [more]

Ask post: Define this bewildering quote for me!
A bridge could, in a sense, be a different method of "cutting corners," whereas making shortcuts in an already well-laid system could create a greater traffic hassle than having to go all the way around. I wouldn't phrase it in the absolute sense that "bridges prohibit..." but might instead suggest "bridges may prohibit..."

Often doing something the quick way seems tempting and a volley of excuses can be made for doing it in the moment, but... [more]

Ask post: "You're very clever, young man, very clever. But it's turtles all the way down!"
There is currently a relatively rampant belief among the uneducated in AIDS-infected regions of Africa that having sex with a noninfected youngster (infants included) will cure the infected person, and it is fairly widely held. I visted Kenya in March and the story was heard more than once. It's yet one more reason AIDS is still quite a big problem -- even the kids who don't have it will get it from grossly misinformed adults going after them. Boggles the mind.

I also had a paper-based debate with a guy I met at a foosball tourney, after he gave me an essay about the supposed "Kenite"/Sons-of-Cain race of people that mirror the biblical race of the Hebrews and walk amidst genuine people. I posted his original essay here and also one of my responses.

Ask post: Why do some drivers flash their hazard lights when seeing a pedestrian?
I've never seen that happen, but I usually interpret hazards as "go around me" not "there's a pedestrian." I generally interepret flashing the headlights as aggression -- so if I were crossing and a car flashed brights or whatnot, I'd see that as, "I'm in a hurry, get out of my way please."

Ask post: [There is rockets.] vs [There are rockets.]
UbuRoivas: I had not previously been familiar with the terms prescritivist or descriptivist and can conclude that I am, in fact, a descriptivist. I believe that dictionaries are newspapers about how words have been used, not instruction manuals about the limitation of which words may be used, as my prescrivist friend asserts.

Clyde Mnestra and ncc1701d retort, In your actual example, you say "There's rockets" means "There is (a rocket launcher containing) rockets," which broadens to "There is [something singular but I'm going to only refer to the plural thing associated with it, which is] plural." That's not the same," and, *...doesn't easily imply "it is a rocket launcher containing rockets."

DevilsAdvocate issues forth, "There's rockets" is nonstandard in formal English (i.e., what prescriptivists would call "incorrect").

So what it seems we've established here is that it boils down to is strictly just a matter of language philosophy, and not actual correct or incorrectness. According to prescriptivism, it's out. According to descriptivism, it's perfectly acceptable.

It might also be noted that, as someone who studies religious texts to some degree, it is of utmost importance to ascertain about what exactly the writer is trying to communicate, not what the actual words appear to mean regardless of context. For instance, if someone were to lose face over a controversy -- they would not actually find themselves suddenly (or gradually) with no facial features. We must examine, by context and history of the time, what a... [more]

Ask post: Anxiety blows!
Consider asking for an allergy test. An allergy has the possibility of affecting someone in no other obvious than simply mood. A friend's wife has a wheat allergy and she becomes very depressed if she consumes a normal amount of wheat. I have a peanut allergy that annihilates my inhibitions of revealing things normally kept quiet. Something as simple as eliminating a dietary substance may work amazing wonders. Seriously, check into it.

Ask post: How do I price tag on my booty?
Create a seller account under half.com (part of eBay) and go as if you were going to sell one of the item you are researching. When the moment comes to set a price, you will be given data in a range of what prices the item has been sold at. In my experience, half.com is the best place to sell (and get accurate prices for) video games of any sort -- because there is no listing fee unlike Amazons $1 minimum for anything, thus insuring there are no $1 jackups to cover it.

Ask post: Is there another method of placing bumper stickers?
Find a similarly sized "low tac" bumpersticker, and put the required sticker on top of it, so the combination effectively makes the required one low-tac. Low-tac stickers will pull off easily with little or no residue, but will easily last during weather troubles.

low-tac bumpersticker example.

Ask post: Is there any good reason to tell someone what I really think of them?
I would not be impressed by that email. That would just prove to me that you actually will take my orders without being bold enough to actually put that disgruntled attitude to real action by actively taking a lead. Leaders will lead when there doesn't seem to be any other leadership taking the role, and by your inactivity to actually lead the areas you claim responsibility for, someone else clearly needs to handle it instead. Maintain a minimum payment on all cards except for the card with the most debt. Pay multiples of the minimum on that one card until it is gone. Once it is paid off, continue to pay off the other highest-debt card using the SAME amount you used to pay off the first one PLUS the amount you are now no longer required to pay. Continue for the rest. Example:

Four cards, minimums are $10 each.

On the most-debt card, pay $50, the rest $10 each.... [more]

Ask post: ew.
When your body wants to expel something, you clog up because should it for some reason decide to take the top route instead of the bottom, you won't get stomach acid in your nasal passages. It's a natural blockade in case the invading party decides to go north. It would take too long to clog up after it was suddenly determined that the north route was the actual exit point, so it covers the top just in case.

The duration may be a sign that not all of the expectoration-worthy substance is gone, it could be that the de-clog switch is harder to disengage. I say listen closer to the bodily response rather than trying to suppress symptoms immediately. You may need to be clogged up for a really good reason.

Is there some bizarre limitation from going up there yourself? You apparently had enough time to listen to a recording, just go the frack up there yourself. I am also a former security dispatcher. You might better be advised to say, "I need to report an armed robbery in progress, my address is 123 Four Street." followed by details. Do not hang up unless they tell you to. Even the background noise could be beyond helpful. And don't assume they can get your address just because you called, not every dispatch station has that ability, that's a TV-land assumption.

Completely improper assertion of stalking. He's just asking about her a lot. 2. If feasible, consider lifting her out of the bed and standing her up (I would not especially advise the sheet-tugging, hip-shoving method) or some other method requiring her to use brute muscle strength or balance as standing would.

Ask post: Which Wind Instrument Requres the Least Amount of Lung-Power?
I would advise the trombone (despite being a sax player myself). The trombone is not very heavy (although a bugle would be absurdly lighter) and the thing with brass is that not much air is required at all to make sound, except to make it LOUDER. A trombone has a comfortable enough mouthpiece that it doesn't feel like you're going to dive into your own instrument but yet not so small that it feels like you're trying to breathe through a straw. The smaller brass instruments like a trumpet... [more]
