History from a witness.
Reading that sure makes the squabbles that happen around here all the more petty and small.

Anyone who watches American action movies or television, or who plays videogames, probably has seen a million times worse things. Anyone traumatized by the imagery in that comment is probably too fragile to be surfing the internet in the first place.

To elaborate, perhaps less harshly ... you would have achieved your goal by sending an IM or an email to the admins. The post would have probably been just as deleted, but you wouldn't have perpetuated the idea that petulantly stomping your feet in Metatalk is the proper way to deal with something you don't like on the front page, when flagging it should have been enough.

I notice that there have been several posts on the front page today that were deleted without having someone make a stink about them on Metatalk. WTF?

No. I make the point that just because you don't like something, and because the mods were take too long for your precious self, it doesn't justify making yet another metatalk post when there's already an adequate system to handle your complaint. The fact that Jessamyn immediately bowed to your command will only encourage people with poor impulse control to make similar posts here. There's no reason to take it personally. We just disagree.

Why strive to keep the two sites separate? Metachat has always been the effluent of Metafilter. They're made up of the same people... or has it finally evolved a culture and audience apart from here?

Mainly because the people who run Metachat want to keep Metafilter discussions off Metachat.
Ah. Did not know that. In that case, you're right then.

This isn't the first time loquacious has vehemently defended his dumpster-diving lifestyle. It just goes to show that you can't always assume that the people on the other side of the screen have the same world view as you do. I know I've sure made that mistake before.

SCIENCE! bags and tees
Jeez. I tried to order a t-shirt, I really did. But something prevented me... I put the shirt in the shopping cart, and when I'd go to actually purchase it, it says the cart is empty. So I figure I sign up for an account and try again. It sends me the password, and then tells me it's wrong.
Talk about a crappy sales system costing you sales.

Or better yet, I bet anyone can run a string of these junkets, or be a featured speaker at one, every couple of months, attracting all the web hipsters, and make a better than small living at it.

Can I post something I tested to Projects?
I really liked the idea of this plug-in, but posting it so early in its development is a disservice to the work the guy who wrote it has done on it, like taking a loaf of bread out of the oven too soon.
And now, assuming it isn't a hand-coded hoax, and the plug-in actually does extract review summaries, by posting it so prematurely, you've effectively crippled its chances of getting featured when it will be at its best, and when people would actually install it and use... [more]

It's a single link to a scandalous news story about an interview with a person making an unverified claim about her health, and padded out with wikipedia and youtube links. Favorites are not an indication of quality.
Perhaps, but I took the time to look at every other frontpage post made yesterday. Every single other post had at least one person mark it as a favorite except the one we're talking about. If it's not about quality, then it's indicative of something. Draw your own conclusions.
