How local is too local for the Metafilter front page?

Filter filter. Assuming that favorited comments are better than non-favorited comments, wouldn't the next logical step for the favorites system be to provide a way to distill threads down to their essential goodness? How about adding a drop down box at the top of each thread, letting the reader choose to filter out all the comments that don't make the grade -- displaying only the comments that have X number of favorites or more.

There ought to be a way to undo the "(remove from activity)" button on the Recent Activity page, since commenting anew doesn't do it.

Inspired by this thread, and in an effort to help us know each other better, would it be possible to have tag clouds of everything we've ever written on metafilter - not just the tags from our posts - displayed in our profile?

We need to come up with a solution so that people who post their gigs don't have to pretend they're "Metafilter Gatherings" or "Metafilter Related," and so that they don't get accused of shameless self-promotion or whoring themselves on Metatalk when they post messages such as this or this. They don't quite fit into Projects, but they don't quite belong in any of the categories here.
