Help me push this hobby even further into the pathology zone.

What's a good magazine subscription for a 30-something guy who is really into watches and pens?

The Biggest Threat to Our Nation

An anti-gay rant for the ages. By an American state rep. In 2008. Oklahoma state representative Sally Kern told fellow republicans at a private audience that the homosexual agenda is destroying the nation and that gay people are a bigger threat to our national than terrorism. And that no society that has embraced gay culture has survived. And much more. Well, doggone if these things don't get leaked and find themselves online. Have a few links to the videos and coverage. There are some rumors that Kern has a gay son, but who knows? For her part, Kern says that her remarks were misconstrued and that she is "not going to apologize for standing up for God's word."

The perfect foil for abstinence-only initiatives

Abstinence: 98% effective in preventing HIV/AIDS, STDs and pregnancy (when used consistently and correctly) "If you're having sex, thinking about having sex or trying not to think about having sex, try Abstinence....the condom."

Please tell me what couch will fit in our building!

What couch will fit in our apartment building? Not the specific apartment, mind you, just in the front door and around the stairwell's odd and narrow corners.

I'll be watching you.

Hey gang, what are your Twitter usernames? I want to follow more people but can't figure out how to find people who are interesting, funny and/or would link cool things. I know you would. Who are you? I'll post mine as soon as this thread doesn't get closer or deleted.

The First Time News Was Fit to Print

Is this chatfilter?

Why is this question not chatfilter? I re-read the FAQ and the question seems to be the definition of chatty and open-ended.

God wins in the end, in case you didn't know.

How a Gay Rights Leader became straight is a column by Michael Glatze, one-time editor of Young Gay America magazine. In the column, Glatze explains how be became gay ("I was already weak") and his eventual redemption ("Every time I was tempted to lust, I noticed it, caught it, dealt with it"). When he was still gay, Glatze seemed pretty in touch with gay youth. When interviewed for a Time cover story, he discussed gay teens' alienation saying that today's queer youth just want to be "normal kids." Apparently Glatze wanted to be a normal kid, too! Gay City News had its own take on the Glatze fiasco, quoting him as suggesting America "'examine whether homosexuality should be legal' or if gay sex should instead be punished by 'imprisonment.'" YGAmag responded to Glatze with an open letter. More archived Young Gay America issues here.

Apple Airport wireless printing problem: I am able to print wireless from my MacBook to our printer (via our Airport). My girlfriend, on the other hand, cannot. She has XP.

The bizarre art of Christopher Uminga. Eerie, Cute and simultaneously freaky. Bonus points for the awesome rendering of one of the best Buffy the Vampire Slayer episodes ever, Hush. Here is a link to the whole gallery.

Apple Cinema Display + Macbook + 360

I have an old 17" Apple Cinema Display, a first generation Macbook and an Xbox 360. Explain to me as though I were a small child how I can use my ACD (if at all) 1) with my Macbook and 2) with my Xbox 360. I know that there are probably all kinds of adapters involved but I read some past threads and being not at all savvy couldn't really make heads or tails of any of it. Inside there are photos of the port on my computer and the plug on the ACD.

Cyclists do it on two wheels

A MeFi bicycling challenge was mentioned here and if it was mentioned in other places as well, I apologize-- I couldn't find it. So, who is up for a bicycling challenge similar to what those wacky runners have going on? I am pretty sure we can use a website such as We Endure or similar to start a group and track our progress. Any takers?

Can you please help me understand this stuff?

[IHaveAnExamTodayFilter] I am a graduate student in social work. Today I have a midterm that will include questions on a few things I just cannot understand despite lectures, notes and a glossary. They include confidence level, confidence interval, standard deviation and margin or error. Can you explain this stuff to me, preferably in relation to one another?

Can my partner and I still make use of a gift registry even if we are not doing a traditional ceremony-then-reception type event?

The return of Matt "Dirty" Sanchez

I am not sure where landed on the whole posting follow-up to the grey debate, so hopefully this is okay. Since the Matt Sanchez thread got some people's attention, I thought I'd follow up here and let folks know that the gay porn star turned marine has (allegedly) turned back to the gay sexcapades that made him infamous. That last link has text that is NSFW and a photo that is questionable (topless stud).

Dirty Sanchez: The Truth About A Conservative Gay Porn Star and Prostitute

Cpl. Matt Sanchez is the BFF of Ann Coulter and gay porn consumers. "Former journalist" Charles Wilson has launched an exhaustive site all about him and his alter ego, Rod Majors. Check out his biography, a filmography, an "evidence locker," a discussion forum, articles, forums posts, and transcripts of radio interviews. This is the most comprehsenive site about this dude the world will ever need.

Are we going to be bummed when we hear that users have offed themselves after posting their suicide plans on AskMe?

So, this user wants to ice himself and post it on the internet. Or, the question is "totally theoretical." Who knows. I know this question has come up before, but the film-my-own-suicide dude seems to have an actual plan. I am thinking of the Viriginia Tech situation where former professors and classmates are coming with an example-a-minute of things the shooter wrote and said that people didn't respond to. I am picturing a local news story with friends and family going through this dude's bookmarked sites and saying "He pleaded for help on this site..." and seeing the green up there. Maybe MeFites more senior to myself can shed some light on this. I don't have a position either way (or, I should say, I have opinions that go both ways), I am more just wondering what an online community's responsibility is to its members, if any.

The labyrinth made simple

Getting around underground in NYC is no longer only for people who already know how to get around underground in NYC. Graphic Designer Eric Jabbour has been spending his free time obsessively redesigning MTA transit maps. And the results are striking. Non-New Yorkers will undoubtedly be able to figure out what's what. Cleaner lines and neighborhood boundaries are just a few features. Also, one can clearly see and understand transfer points and more street names.
