just a fun loving (and surprisingly buff) nerd!!!
What was your motivation in posting it, Dirjy?
I found it quirky and offbeat, and I thought the corny jokes were endearing. Sure, there's bound to be snark here (c'mon it's MeFi), but I thought most people would find it weirdly charming like I did.

Cinematic Renderings of Broadcast Television
So much to love in this thread...
Network is also my favorite movie of all time. Don't get me started on it's sheer unfiltered brilliance. We'll be here awhile.
So, let me just say that "Catholic School Girls in Trouble" from KFM is the true comedy highlight for me. The timing on every joke is perfect. Especially that pie on the horse's ass.

More fun than humans should be allowed to have
Very strange stuff, I'm almost certain I didn't dream it.
You didn't dream it. That was from the "Make Your Own Show" episodes. I think they won an emmy for that one. They did at least two back in the NBC days.
Since Ber already mentioned Dave cajoling Teri Garr into taking a shower in his office (their finest moment together, IMO), I will submit the "Late Night Christmas Show."
It... [more]

100 Most Mispronounced Words
Why is "gist" not here? That's the one that gets under my skin. I've heard so many people say "the JUST of what I'm saying it is..." or "the JEST of what I'm saying is..."
At least "just" is understandable, since it sort of fits the context of the overall meaning, but "jest"???

Heh. My kids have that CD. It's not bad lullaby-type music, but the name of that title track always cracks me up.

is tenet the fall guy?
Tenet will be vilified, the CIA will be gutted, and the 'thugs will beat thier way into the White House.
Let's see how this next couple of weeks play out. I feel pretty certain that the CIA could leak some clear documentation on what they said, and when and who in the White House heard it. I think the paper trail could be damning for the Bush Administration, if they wanted to fight it out in the media.

New 'adult-friendly' policy causes few problems at Missouri theater
To all you swell, fine upstanding citizens, I ask what's a parent to do? Stay away from movies so that you swells aren't bothered?
As a parent myself and an avid film lover, I strongly recommend you invest in a home theater system. Just get the best you can afford within your budget. Sign up for Netflix and you're good to go.
The release window between theater to home video has shrunk as low as 4-5 months, so you don't have... [more]

Atari 2600 Redux -
I replaced it with the coolest joystick in the world. I can't remember its name, but you held it like a gun, with the fire button as the trigger, and the stick itself was a little knubby thing where the chamber would be. God, it's was great.
Was it the Zircon Video Command? Because that was exactly how that one worked, and it was easily my favorite joystick for the 2600. I went through plenty to try and find one that was just right. The standard Atari... [more]

"Anybody who stood up to McCarthy in closed session, and did so articulately, tended not to get called up into the public session."
I found it very interesting that it turns out the best way to get McCarthy off your back was to stand up to him. Really no different than a playground bully...

NSFNFH (not safe for NewsFilter haters)
In a debate on Oct. 11, 2000, Mr. Bush sided with the critics of secret evidence. "Arab-Americans are racially profiled on what's called secret evidence," Mr. Bush said, adding that the government should "do something about that."
He DID do something. More of it.

For 2004, Bush's Aides Plan Late Sprint for Re-election
This cuts right to the heart of what I've been thinking about lately concerning Bush's emphasis on national security. Would you feel comfortable playing up this national security success record:

* The Anthrax Mailer: MISSING
* Saddam Hussein: MISSING

* The Anthrax Mailer: NO ANTHRAX DEATHS SINCE 10/11
* Saddam Hussein: IRAQ LIBERATED; SADDAM GONE.
I guess that's one way to look at it. I guess we dreamers expected to see justice applied to evil actions and their perpetrators.

Late Fees
I also hate BlockBuster, not just because of their shifting late fee policy (which is annoying), but mostly because:
1) Their movie selection sucks ASS
2) They refuse to carry Unrated or NC-17 movies, prompting the studios to provide censored versions of those films in order to get them on the BB shelves. BB has also been known to get studios to censor their R-rated films in a special 'BlockBuster version'. The ripple effect of this policy has... [more]

The only things I can say for sure it that it wouldn't be an industry at all, that musicians wouldn't be able to make a living from their talents
Music had existed for thousands of years before the music industry. Do you really think that no musicians made a living from their talents prior to the 20th-century invention of recorded music?

Amazon UK taken down by demand in cheap PDAs
Back during the e-boom years, Amazon used to honor these kinds of mistakes. Of course, this was back when their customer base was much smaller and they were more about making customers (very) happy than actually turning a profit.
I remember one morning they had listed The Insider on DVD for $0.00. I (along with many others I know of) tried placing an order, and it went through with no problem. Mine shipped that afternoon and I only had to pay $2.99 shipping.... [more]

The Best DVD Site For Movie Lovers Out There
For a more pure home theater geek experience, there's also the AVS Forum and Home Theater Forum.
