Ask post: How would the Hulk say "Hulk Smash!" in French?
My other half (a fluent French speaker & comic book/ superhero geek), agrees with Brocktoon... he'd likely just say "Hulk Smash!" (imagine it though with a French accent & no "h" sound on "Hulk"); although he's just guessing.

I haven't tried Guitar Hero, but the premise doesn't interest me... ditto anything karaoke related.

Ask post: Good recipes with fewest possible ingredients.
Not one recipe, but a bunch: The Vegetarian 5 Ingredient Gourmet. I love food, but hate to prep, I have a big collection of cookbooks, but I keep coming back to this one & one other (more ingredients).
Also, I'm not a vegetarian, it's still a great read... it's also nice to have a book in hand to browse for recipes, instead of staring at the computer screen.
I do have a few favourites in the book, my email's in the profile if you're interested I'll type a few out for... [more]

Ask post: Help me appreciate horror movies.
I agree with Twiggy's comment whole-heartedly, & also with Lucind's aside about enjoying Saw, but having no interest in Hostel, The Hills Have Eyes, etc.
For me a slasher flick is different than these movies though (Saw included), slashers, Friday the 13th, Halloween & Hatchet to name a newer one, are more "fun". The key difference for me is that a slasher film has humour intended; this other type of horror film, gorno, for lack of a better word, is a very... [more]

Fwiw, zemblamatic's post didn't work for me; I entered a 750+ word blog post I'd recently written & it speculated that it was written by a man.

Ask post: White wine for red wine drinkers.
I like other Mondavi wines, so meerkitty's suggestion will probably be good for one bottle (I think I'll be bringing two).
And valleys, I actually have a bottle of Inniskillin ice wine at home right now from a recent trip to Niagara on the Lake. I may bring it, but my SO wanted to save it for the two of us.

Riesling suggestions noted as well, thanks to everyone so far.

Ask post: I need to find a place to store my movie and music ratings
I use Criticker to store my movie rankings, the downside is that you can't enter the date you watched the movie (unless you enter that info as a mini-review for the world to see); the plus side is that it also give predicted recommendations based on your existing rankings.

Ask post: We're Moving to Montreal! Where should we live?!
If you're working at McGill, have friends in NDG, like the feel of Outremont, & are anglophones, I would definitely recommend Westmount. It's cute, anglo-centric, close to downtown & has everything a neighbourhood needs.

Ask post: Baby climbed over my only idea
I think this fits all your requirements, but it's not cheap. It's also marketed for pets, but seems to be what you're looking for. If it's too short (it's 22" high), they also have a taller one(36"), but since you said you wanted to be able to climb over it, I chose to link to the shorter one. Good Luck!

Ask post: The ongoing search for the perfect lingerie
Good lucK indeed, I looked for 30 minutes to no avail, mainly for myself ;) ...that bra is gorgeous!
I think the extra panel of fabric covering the cups is what makes it really unique, but it's pretty elusive.

Ask post: nicknames given as mangled pronunciations of real names
I had a friend in high school whose name was Rochan (Rō' shan), we called him Roach.

amusing note: my father heard some of my friends & I talking, & took me aside when he heard the name Roach. Seems he got pretty upset, thinking it was a drug reference nickname & didn't want me to hang around this "Roach" fellow. He was pretty embarassed when I explained the nicknames origin to him.

Ask post: Montreal with no car and a desire for IKEA
The STM does have an English translation of the site, also they have a great tool for helping you plan your trip: Tous Azimuts.
You can do a text search & use the hotel address as the starting point, I would suggest the destination point to be an intersection: Cavendish & Cote-Vertu. The last 2 weeks of July are "construction holidays" here & some of the buses are less frequent. He can walk south on Cavendish from that intersection for about 5/ 10 minutes or so... [more]

Ask post: What do I need to have in my pantry?
I'm a little late to the fold, so you may not read this, but I love Donna Hay cookbooks, in particular my favourite is Off the Shelf: Cooking From the Pantry. It's beautiful to look at (there are colour photographs for every recipes), has nicely defined sections & she gives you a list of what to keep in your pantry... some of them aren't traditional mainstays, but she explains her reasons & gives plenty of recipes to use these staples regularly. There is also recommendations for... [more]

Ask post: Meetup frequencies
My 2 cents...

I belong to several, and co-organize a couple, Meetup groups. I'll agree with everyone that it really depends on the focus of your group as well as the members. For your second event I would do it one month from the first, after that I would add a poll to the site asking people for input (you can give them the chance to choose several options, and while it doesn't have to influence your calendar, it doesn't hurt to know when people are available). I say you... [more]

Ask post: Delayed delivery for daily doses of ... uh ... me?
To echo what cribcage said... I tried FutureMe a while back for a email to be sent under 90 days; I wasn't alerted that it wouldn't accept my submission (that may have changed), but all said, it never reached it's destination. If you want these messages to arrive, I think the e-cards are a great idea. (& probably TimeCave from the other replies).

Hmm, so if I don't get an address in this thread, I'll start by phoning to request a better email address & if that doesn't work I'll ask who to forward my letter to at the mailing address on the site. A combination of both your responses.
Thanks boreddusty & empath!

Ask post: Toronto's Best Burger?
I'm not sure if you're looking for votes on your current list or to make your list bigger.
Either way, my vote goes for Lick's, doubly so if you count a turkey burger; their Gobbler is amazing!

I should probably mention that not everyone will be young, definitely not twenty-somethings & the majority don't speak English very well (if at all). It probaly won't make a difference to the suggestions, but I thought I'd mention it.

tastybrains beat me to it, but yeah, I received a thermal stainless coffee travel mug from my company with a logo a while back. I've since moved to another city & no longer work for them, but I still use the mug & think fondly of the company. As to where you can get this for a 20 item run, sorry, I can't help you there.

I'll third BookMooch; and they have a new feature that I'm playing with right now actually that gives you recommendations based on your previous "mooches" (based on what others who have received the same books have also read). I'm not sure how accurate it is, but it's looking pretty interesting.

Ask post: Is Canada all the rage?
Just a few comments.

Medical Assistance - yes, it's free, it's generally efficient, & access to everything you mentioned is available. It is by no means perfect, but many companies have extended medical benefits for employees (dentists, glasses, etc.).

Urban Life - I've lived in two major metropolitan cities in Canada and there is definitely traffic. Clean (generally), I would agree with. There is of course crime & pollution, but... [more]

Ask post: I need gift ideas for my grandfather who is turning 80.
In all seriousness, I'd suggest a battery-powered handheld card/ solitaire game (with extra batteries), he can use it on his flight as well and it fits in your price range.
As a point of reference, I had someone in the over 65 age range approach me today on a bus while I was playing a card game on my DS. He asked a multitude of questions, sounded like he was interested in one for himself.

Ask post: Why does repetitive music make me nauseous?
Slightly off-track, and not an answer (sorry)... I have this same feeling you describe when I am doing a task I find to be repetitive. Ex.: I worked for a company that required large amounts of mylar to be hole punched on an foot pedal air pressure machine; I felt nauseated doing this task.

I guess I'm saying it could be the repetition factor more than the music itself. Then again, maybe you were thinking the same thing.
