I still like the cloud style better than either of these. It contains information the proposed replacements don't, and it fits on one page in my browser with no scrolling, which the other 2 do not.

I am still trying to understand what makes tag clouds "useless" compared to these new options. A tag cloud:
lists the 150 most popular tags in alphabetical order
gives a simple visual cue for the relative popularity of each tag within the alphabetical list
fits entirely within one browser page, even on a smallish monitor.

nowonmai: while it's true that having completely unrelated tags show up in different sizes is irrelevant if you're looking for information about cats, useful information is conveyed by the relative size of related tags. As an example, take a look at the tags cat, cats and pets in the Ask cloud. You can see immediately that cat is used far more often than the other two, and start your search from there. Well, that looks like it was blast! Thanks for my first shoutout (loquacious? guessing based on the script.) Really makes me wanna get to the next one. I wound up having a lovely evening going to the beach to watch the International Space Station streak past the moon, followed by board games at the Chinese restaurant/karaoke bar (with a wayward SF resident, no less.)
No fish 'n' chips, though, and a distinct lack of mefites and mathowie masks. See ya next time.

This way several competing proposals can be considered without so many "I'm in for Saturday" and "I hate that bar" comments cluttering up the thread. the OP could still have veto power, but it would be a simpler way of figuring out which ideas are popular.
